**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**In the days of the wheat harvest.** Hashem arranged it to occur at a time when the grain was still standing in the fields, so that everything would be burned.

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**Better than she.** He hinted that his wife had set her eyes on others, whereas the younger one would be yours alone.

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**This time I am blameless.** For surely the marriage had been conducted publicly — why, then, did they not protest when they gave a married woman to another?

###### Malbim on Judges 15:4:1

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**Between the two tails in the midst.** He hinted to them that just as he placed a torch between two tails, so one places fire between two companions — as it says, “Can a man take fire in his bosom…? So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife.”

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**If you do such a thing.** That is to say, their burning of her was not truly because of her immorality, but to appease Samson’s anger. He said: I thought that a monetary penalty would suffice; but since you act in this way, imposing a punishment of death, then I too will demand lives from you according to your own custom — and this is what he meant by, “for I will surely take vengeance upon you.”

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**Do you not know that the Philistines rule over us?** For the law is (according to Rambam) that if idolaters say, “Give us one of you and we will kill him,” he is not to be handed over unless he is liable to death, like Sheba son of Bichri — meaning, even if he is not liable according to Torah law but under the law of the kingdom. Likewise, if he is a pursuer whose actions endanger the many, so that through him danger comes upon all Israel, he may be handed over even if they did not single him out (as stated by the Taz in Yoreh De‘ah, siman 157).

###### Malbim on Judges 15:11:2

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
At first they said, “Do you not know that the Philistines rule over us? What is this that you have done?” — meaning, you are endangering the entire community and acting as one who pursues the many. He replied: I did not think any harm would come to you, for as they did to me, so I did to them — these were matters between me and them, not affecting the public at large.

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**And they said to him, “We have come down to bind you.”** For they have singled you out, and you are liable to death under their royal law.

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps upon heaps.** Donkeys have fallen — a people likened to a donkey; that is, with it I struck down a thousand men.

###### Malbim on Judges 15:18:1

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**You have given… and now shall I die of thirst?** And it is a general principle that Hashem does not perform a miracle in vain or without purpose — since, if so, I would now fall into their hands anyway.

###### Malbim on Judges 15:19:1

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**The hollow.** A place formed in the shape of a mortar.

###### Malbim on Judges 15:19:2
[Malbim on Judges 15:19:2](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Malbim%20on%20Judges/r/15:19:2)

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**Therefore he called its name.** To commemorate that one who calls upon Hashem will be answered with a miracle. Some hold that when a person arrives at the place where a miracle was performed for him, he is obligated to bless; at the very least, the one for whom the miracle occurred must bless. Therefore he designated the place with a name: first he called it “Lehi” to remember the miracle of the jawbone, and when another miracle occurred there, he added the name “En HaKorei,” so that one would bless for both — as in the incident of Mar the son of Ravina (Berakhot, chapter “HaRo’eh”), who ruled that one must include both miracles.
