He endeavors and does everything he can to not need others and to not enclothe himself in the favors of others. For this would place him under an obligation to toil to express gratitude to them and to also make a return, as it is proper and obligatory to pay back a benefactor with good, as mentioned earlier in the beginning of the third gate. Rather, he desires that G-d alone be his benefactor, and that he thanks only Him.

This is because the chief cause of mental agitation and confusion which prevents a man from learning torah and devoting himself to religious service is - constant worry on his livelihood, how will he earn money and through what means. But one who trusts in G-d will diminish his worry in this and increase his worry for religious service. And he will have tranquility of heart like the Alchemist, and even more.

**ומנהיג כו'**כשאינו יודע להעלים את סודו הוא ע"ד מה שאמרו חז"ל ג' דברים מזכירין עונותיו של אדם כו' הרי לפניך אם אינו עומד במקום סכנה יוכל להנצל כי עדיין לא הגיע זמנו להפרע מעונו אבל אם מתראה לפני המשחית יאסוף עם החטאים כן הוא בעושה רמיה כ"ז שיוכל להעלים את סודו עדיין לא הגיע זמנו ואפשר שינצל עוד ויאריך ברמייתו כמו כל עושה עולה אבל כשאינו יודע להעלים את סודו אז ימצא בעל חוב מקום לגבות חובו כך שמעתי מפירש"י ועיין בס"ס שומר אמונים כדברים האלה. ואני פרשתי שמנהיג הכל כו' ר"ל השם יתברך שהוא מנהיג הכל משליט עליו שלא יוכל להעלים את סודו כדי שימיתוהו כי בא קצו וה' חפץ במיתתו אבל כל זמן שאין ה' חפץ במיתתו עדיין יוכל להעלים מן הבריות סודו וכן פי' הר"נ ועוד שמעתי שמנהיג הכל קאי על שליט המדינה שהוא ישלוט עליו כו' והבוחר יבחר:
