**אומר וכו' כי הפרישות שם תחתיו ענינים**ר"ל המלה זה של פרישות הוא שם על כל מיני פרישות שכלם נקראים בשה זה שהוא פרוש אבל תחתיו כשתעיין היטב למה הוא פורש מזה הדבר תמצא תחתיו כמה ענינים שאינם דומים זה לזה:

**והשם כנוי מגולה**ר"ל כל השמות של כל דבר הוא רק כנוי מגולה שנקרא כך בפי האדם והענין ופירושו הוא נסתר ונעלם בתוכו:

**התענוג בהם**ומזה נראה שאין גוף הדבר המצוה רק כדי להעמיד המין שלא יפסוק לכך ניתן התענוג הזה כ"כ הרמב"ם בפי' משנת ואלו הן הנסקלין ע"ש באריכות וכן הוא בענין המאכלים שאחר האכילה נפסק התענוג מאכילה להורות שהיא רק לקיום הגוף ולא לתענוג:

**ולפי שנצטרך כו' היה בדין להיות בעולם פרושים כו'**ר"ל בעבור שיש כמה ב"א שההרגל נעשה ממש כטבע אצלם להרבות במיני התענוגים הן במאכל או במשתה ובמדות רעות ומגונות עד שנפלו לכמה רעות והשחתת גופם ולמיתה קודם זמנם וסבורים שאין יכולין למנוע מהם לכך נתן הש"י בלב כמה ב"א להיות פרושים גמורים זה ממדה זו וזה מזו ונבדלים ממנה לגמרי ויכול כל אדם ללמוד מהם מדות ויראה בעיניו שיוכל להכריח טבעו לכל אשר יחפוץ לדרך בינוני כמו שיש כמה מיני בעלי מלאכות בעולם וכן יש מדינות שמצויין בהם סגולות ומלאכות פרטיים שאין באחרת כדי שיסתפקו זה מזה:

i.e. since there are many human beings whose [bad] practice has become ingrained as second nature - to excessively indulge in pleasures, whether in food and drink, or in bad and disgraceful character traits, until this led to many bad things, ruining health, or even premature death, and they deem themselves incapable of refraining from them. Therefore, G-d put in the hearts of some human beings to become complete ascetics, this person from such a trait, that person from that trait, and which are completely separated from it, so that everyone can learn from them virtue, and to see with their own eyes that they are capable of forcing their nature in whatever matter to the middle way, just like there are many different trades and sciences in the world, and there are countries which excel in skills or resources over all others, so that they will benefit from each other.
