**אחר התעפשם וכו'**וז"ל מ"ה וזה ידוע בחכמת הטבע שאין בטבע להתחדש שום הויה אא"כ יפסיד ויתקלקל להפשיט צורה הראשונה וללבוש צורה אחרת כי ההעדר יקדם לכל הויה והוא אחד מסבות הויה כמו שגרגירי הזרע לא יצמחו אא"כ ירקבו קודם לכן בארץ ואח"כ יצמחו וכן טפת הזרע לא יתהוה ממנו הולד עד שתסריח וכ"כ הראב"ד בהקדמת פי' לס' יצירה וכן רמזו חז"ל באמרה מאין באת מטפה הרוחה עכ"ל:

**יכיר מצורת מעמדו**מן צורת מעמדו בעוה"ז יכנע וידע שהוא אסיר תפוש ממש ואינו כמשל ודמיון בעלמא שנאמר שהאדם הוא כמו אסיר רק אסיר ממש שהרי נראה שאין לו יכולת לדחות מעליו כל והפגעים והחלאים המתרגשים לבוא על האדם א"כ איננו ברשותו ובבחירתו כמו האסיר:

Not that he is like a prisoner as an analogy or metaphor, but rather he is actually a prisoner. Since, behold, we can see that he is incapable of averting all the accidents, sicknesses, etc. which suddenly befall a man. If so, he is not in control of himself and not able to choose for himself just like a prisoner.

**כאלו לא רוחץ וכו' ולא הפיח ריח הטוב**ר"ל שם בקבר מבאיש ריחו כ"כ כאלו לא רוחץ מעולם או שלא הריח ממנו שום ריח טוב בחייו. הפיח מל' הפיחי גני יזלו בשמיו:

**והפסק טענותיו ואמתלאותיו**שאז במעמד הגמול לעוה"ב לא יהיה לו שום טענה ואמתלא וגם חרטה לא יועיל בעת ההיא:

**his pleas and excuses will be cut short** -- there in the next world, he will have no pleas and no excuses. Likewise, regret [and repentance] will not help at that time.

**וחרטתו במעמד הגמול**שיתחרט אז על מעשיו המגונים שעשה בחייו כשיענש עליהם וגם אז יראה הגמול הטוב לצדיקים והרע לרשעים ויצר לו ולא יועיל חרטתו כי מי שטרח בע"ש כו':

**he will be full of regret** -- then he will regret the disgraceful deeds he did while alive when he will be punished for them. Then too, he will see the reward for the righteous and the punishment to the wicked and it will pain him, and his regret will not help since (Avodah Zara 3a) "One who toiled on friday (this world) will eat on Shabbat (next world); but one who did not toil on friday, what will he eat from on Shabbat?"

**והחמישי כאשר יחשוב בגדולת הבורא יתברך ועוז גבורתו כו'**וכיצד יוכל לצייר בנפשו ולתת אל לבו גדולת הבורא ית' כשיתן אל לבו הענין הגדול הזה דהיינו מן המורא הגדולה והנפלאה שהיתה על חסידים ואנשי מעשה שבדורות הראשונים והאחרונים כמה גדולים היו מעשיהם שהיה בידם להחיות מתים ולהמית למי שהיו רוצים כמ"ש חז"ל בגמרא ובזוהר במקומות אין מספר וכן נודע ומפורסם מהנפלאות שעשה האר"י לוריא ז"ל ותלמידיו וזולתם רבים שהיו לפנינו וכאשר יעריך החכמים הגדולים הנזכרים נגד הנביאים כמו אליהו ואלישע ודומיהם המפורסמים ואנו רואים בתנ"ך שהנביאים אחזתם חיל ורעדה בראותם המלאכים וכמו שנזכר בזוהר כשעלה משה למרום:

**When one contemplates the greatness of the Creator and His infinite might** -- How can one picture in his mind and put to heart the greatness of the Creator? When one fixes his mind on this great theme, namely, the great and wondrous awe on the sages and pious ones of the early generations and [even] the later ones. How great was their deeds! They were capable of resurrecting the dead and of killing whoever they wanted (by mere words), as reported in the Talmud and the zohar in numerous places. Likewise it is known of the wonders that the Arizal did, and likewise his disciples, and many others. When one then compares the greatness of these sages with that of the prophets such as Eliyahu and Elisha and other famous ones, and we see that the prophets were seized with fear and trembling when they were visited by angels (see Megila 3a), and as mentioned in the zohar when Moshe ascended to the spiritual worlds.

**והמלאכים כורעים ומשתחוים לבורא ית'**כידוע א"כ מה אנוש כי תזכרנו איך ירים ראש להתגאות נגד מלך אדיר ונורא ועליון על הכל ואף גם שהוא משקיף עליו תמיד על נגלהו ונסתרו:

If so, "what is man that You consider him?" (tehilim 8:4) How could he raise his head and be proud before an omnipotent and awesome King loftier than everything, and even while He is observing him always in his outer and inner life.

**כמו השמש כו'**כבר כתבתי למעלה דברי הרמב"ם שהשמש הוא מאה ושבעים פעם גדול יותר מכדור הארץ וכדור הארץ יש בהקיפו כ"ד אלף מיל ע"ש. ועכ"ז לא נפלאת ולא רחוקה היא משחז"ל כל העולם כולו תחת כוכב אחד ולא קשה כלום קושית התוספות בחגיגה ע"ש כי אף שנראים קטנים הוא מחמת גודל: רום המרחק שבינינו ולהם:

**והששי כשקורא בספרי הנביאים וכו'**וכתב בשער קדושה שער ד' הגאוה היא שורש להרבה עבירות אם בין אדם למקום ואם בין אדם לחבירו כי גורם להזיק לחבירו ולשנאתו ולדבר לה"ר עליו וכאלו רבות ואם בינו למקום שכן כתוב ורם לבבך ושכחת את ה' אלהיך ואחז"ל כל שיש בו גסות הרוח נקרא תועבה שנא' תועבת ה' כל גבה לב ואמרו בשמתא מאן דאית ביה וכו' ואין עפרו ננער ושכינה מיללת עליו ושקול כעובד כוכבים וככופר בעיקר וכאלו בא על העריות כולן וכאלו בנה במה כו' ע"ש אמנם הענוה והשפלות אין מדה גדולה הימנה כי משה רבן של הנביאיה בתורה ובמצות וביראת חטא לא נשתבח אלא בענוה והאיש משה עניו מאד ע"ש באורך דברים נחמדים:
