**אבל מפסידי יחוד המעשה כו'**ע"י שלשה דברים האלה יבא הפסד וכליון במעשיו שבוודאי אינם לש"ש והוא מפרשה אחד לאחד:

**ואם יעשה כו' כוונתו בהם מי שיירא ויקוה מבני אדם בלבד**ר"ל כמו מי שירא מב"א ומוכרח לעבוד אותם כן זה שאינו יודע את האלהים ועושה שום מצוה בוודאי כוונתו ג"כ לב"א שהרי אינו יודע את האלהים. וי"ג מה שירא מב"א:

**ועובד בני אדם ולא הבורא אותם**אותם קאי על כלל העולם:

**איננו מוזהר ע"י נביא**רק מעשה אבותיהם בידיהם. ומי יברר לו עתה הפסד אמונתו באותות:

**אבל המחניף כו'**במה שקבל מן המצות ומן אבותינו דור אחר דור וקבלו עליהם ועל זרעם לאשר ולקיים כל התורה שהזהירה אותנו לעבדו לבדו ולא לעבוד זולתו:

**עובד מי שממרה את האלהים**שפעמים מחניף לרשעים ולכל מי שרוצה למצוא חן בעיניו הוא מחניף לו לכן אין תכלית לנעבדיו ג"כ:

**אך מי שאינו מבין מצות ה' כו'**ור"ל אם הוא עם הארץ ובור איך יוכל לעבוד את ה' בשלימות כיון שהוא מסופק אם הוא מחויב במצוה זו אם לאו ואף אם עושה הוא רק מצות אנשים מלומדה ועושה ג"כ בשבילם ולא לש"ש וכמ"ש חז"ל אין בור ירא חטא ולא עם הארץ חסיד:

since he is unsure if he is obligated in such and such a mitzva or not, and even if he does the service, it will be only by rote practice, and for ulterior motives, not lshem shamayim (for G-d), like our sages said: (Pirkei Avot 2:5) "A brutish man cannot fear sin; an ignorant man cannot be pious"
