**ואומר כי מפסידי השערים הקודמים כו'**ר"ל היחוד להאמין בבורא עולם כמו שנתבאר שם וכן הבחינה לבחון בבריותיו ולקבל עליו עבודת הבורא יתברך כפי הראוי לו ומי שרחוק ממנו השערים האלה ונפל במפסידיהם כמו שנתבאר לעיל הוא בוודאי איננו בטוח בה':

i.e. the Unity - to believe in the Creator of the world, as explained there [in Gate #1], and likewise on the [Gate of] examination, to examine His creations, and to assume the service of the Creator, as is fitting to Him. Whoever is far from the things mentioned in those gates and fell into the things detrimental to them as was explained earlier - he undoubtedly does not trust in G-d.

**הסכלות בענין הבורא**שאינו מבין שהשם יתברך הוא מלך גדול ונורא ומלכותו בכל משלה:

**ושהם קשורים באסוריו**שכל הבריות קשורים בו יתברך ממש שהכל ביד ה' כל המאורעות שהאדם עושה הוא הכל בידו ואין מי שיוכל לשנות דבר חוץ מיראת שמים שנתן הבחירה בידו של אדם:

**that they are bound by His chains** -- all the creations are truly bound by Him, that everything is from Him, all things that a human being does is completely from Him, and there is nobody who can change anything, except for yiras shamayim (moral choice) which G-d gave the free will in man's hands.

**כמ"ש ובחנוני נא בזאת**וכל הפרשה שם על מעשר נאמר כמה שנאמר היקבע אדם אלהים (ל' גזילה) כי אתם קובעים אותי ואמרתם במה קבענוך המעשר והתרומה (שאתם גוזלים מן הכהנים והלוים היא גזלתי) במארה אתם נארים. על עון זה שאני שולח קללה במעשה ידיכם ואעפ"כ ואותי אתם קובעים הגוי כלו הביאו את כל המעשר אל בית האוצר ויהי טרף בביתי. לת"ח וליראי ה' שהם בית ה' ממש. ובחנוני נא בזאת אמר ה' צבאות אם לא אפתח לכם את ארובות השמים והריקותי לכם ברכה עד בלי די וגו' כל הפרשה עיין שם ועיין מ"ש בשער ג' פ"י ממעלת המעשר מכל אשר חנן ה' לאדם שהוא מצוה גדולה מאד ושומר את הממון ומוסיפו ועיין בספר יש נוחלין ומקנ"ח:

**בטחו בה' עדי עד כי ביה ה' צור עולמים**סלע וצור ומחסה עולמים:

**ומהם נטותו אל הסיבות הקרובות כו'**רצונו לומר שזה הוא ממפסידי הבטחון בה' אם האדם משים בטחונו אל הסיבה הקרובה לו מה שהוא רואה שממנו פרנסתו וסבר שזה הדבר הוא נותן לו פרנסתו:

**ולא ידע כי העילות כו'**כי הדבר הקרוב אליו שממנו פרנסתו כחו מועט לתת לו פרנסתו מהדבר הרחוק ממנו שהוא עילה וסיבה לזה הדבר ודבר זה לדבר אחר עד שמגיע לאדם זה כל האמצעיים שמאתו יתברך נקראים עילות וסיבות והש"י הוא עילת כל העילות וסיבת כל הסיבות והאדם המקבל מכל העילות והוא נקרא מעולל ואתה תבין:

the thing near to him from which his livelihood comes has less power to provide his livelihood than the thing remote from him, which is the cause of this [near] thing, and this remote thing to another more remote thing, etc. All these agents from the man on are called causes and means, and G-d is the Means of all the means and the Cause of all the causes, and the man who receives from all the means is called "the affected". Understand this.

**וכללו של דבר כו'**וראיה מוכחת ע"ז הוא מה שאמר שהילד בתחלה בוטח על שדי אמו ואח"כ על אמו ואח"כ על אביו ובכן עד מדרגות שזכר ומזה נראה כי כל מי שיש לו ידיעה יתירה בה' ובהשגחתו עליו יש לו בטחון יותר בה' (*מחמת שהוא מבין שטוב יותר לבטוח עליו):

The proof of this is what he will mention shortly, that a baby at first trusts in his mother's breast, and afterwards on his mother, and afterwards on his father, and so on for the 10 levels he mentions. From this it is clear that the greater one's knowledge of G-d and of His providence on him, the more trust in G-d he will have.

**ולא יגביר ענין על ענין**לומר שזה הדבר חזק וטוב יותר לתת פרנסתו מדבר אחר רק מה שהוא בו עתה שממנו פרנסתו הוא טוב בעיניו ולא יתאוה לדבר אחר:

**וישתעשע בזכרו בבדידות**כלומר וישתעשע אפילו יהיה בבדידות יהיה לו שעשוע ושמחה בזכרו יתברך. (*או רצה לומר בזכרו בבדידות הבורא יתעלה שהש"י הוא אחד. ר"נ):

**וישתומם מבלתי המחשבה בגדולתו**וישתומם ושותק אם יעלה על מחשבתו דבר שהוא בלתי מחשבות בגדולת הש"י אזי שותק ותוהה ומשליך מעליו כל המחשבות הזרות ומעלה על לבו רק גדולת הבורא יתברך לבד. (*ויתמה על מי שאינו מחשב בשמו יתברך):

**לפגיעתו**שיפגעו בו שלוחי ה' ומלאכיו או שהוא לשון תפלה מל' אל תפגע בי שלא יכסוף כי אם שיתפלל לפניו:

**ותטרידהו שמחתו באהבתו**הטרדה שהוא טרוד תמיד באהבת הש"י הוא לו לשמחה גדולה יותר ממה ששמחים אנשי עוה"ז כשמשיגין תאותם ויותר ממה ששמחים המתים בתענוגים בעולם הבא כי שמחתו באהבת הש"י הוא יותר תענוג מכל תענוגי העולם הזה והעולם הבא כמו שאמרו חז"ל יפה שעה אחת בתשובה ובמעשים טובים בעולם הזה מכל חיי העולם הבא:

His joy in love of G-d is greater than the pleasure of the living in reaching their desires and even greater than the pleasures of the dead in the next world, as our sages said (Avot 4:17): "one hour of teshuva and good deeds in this world is better than all of the life of the next world".

**ואלה עשר מדרגות**מהילד עד נביאים והחסידים אשר לא ימלט כו'. וכתב לעיל בשער ע"ה סוף פ"ד וז"ל ובזכרנו המדרגות האלה תועלת גדול למי שמבקש הדרך הישרה והוא כאשר תמצא בו מעלה שהוא קרוב אליה וידע מה שסמוכה לה מן המדרגות וישתדל המעלות שהוא קרוב אליה ויתבאר לו מה בינו ובין התכונה העליונה וישתדל לעלות ממנה מדרגה אחר מדרגה ויהיה יותר קל עליו עכ"ל:
