**אך מפסידי הבחינה**מה הם הדברים המפסידים את דעתו של אדם ועי"ז אינו מבחין בטובות הבורא בחכמתו ויכלתו כמו שנתבאר בשער הזה:

**והדברים התלוים בה**ר"ל שיש דברים התלוים ושייכים לבחינה וראוי ג"כ להזכירם כמו שמבאר לפנינו:

i.e. there are some things which depend and are related to the examination, and it is proper to mention them.

**אומר אני כי כל הדברים כו' מפסידים ג"כ הבחינה**כי מי שאינו מאמין ביחודו של עולם שהוא לבדו ברא את כל אלה בודאי איננו מבחין בטובות הבורא יתברך לתת הודאה עליהם כו' מאחר שאין דבר אצלו ראוי לעבוד אמר נבל בלבו אין אלהים ואם היה מבחין בעין פקיחא על גודל חכמת הבורא ויכלתו והשגחתו היה מאמין ביחודו של עולם ושע"כ הוא לבדו ברא את כל אלה כמו שנתבאר א"כ תלה זה בזה:

**the factors noted in the first treatise** -- since one who does not believe in the One Master of the universe, that He alone created all these things, certainly such a person cannot discern the benevolences of the Creator, and to thank Him for them, etc., since for such a person, there is nothing fitting to serve, "the fool says in his heart, 'There is no G-d'" (Tehilim 53:2). But if he would examine with an open eye, on the greatness of the Creator, and His wisdom and providence - he would believe in the Master of the world, and that inevitably, He alone created all this, as explained there. Hence, this depends on that.

**אך הדברים התלוים כו' וכשיקבל עבודתו בעבורם**כי מה תועלת אם אדם בוחן ויודע גדולות וטובות הש"י ואין מקבל עבודתו עליו כמ"ש חז"ל תכלית חכמה תשובה ומע"ט כו':

Because for what purpose, should a person examine and know the greatness and goodness of G-d without assuming His service, as our sages said (Berachot 17a): "the purpose of wisdom is repentance and good deeds"

**ולא יעמוד**ר"ל שלא יפסוק מחשבתו בכל עת ובכל רגע בכל דבר שרואה מבריאת הבורא יתברך הן גדול או קטן ובפרט בענין האדם בעצמו איך הש"י מתנהג עמו בכל הדברים ואם האדם יתן דעתו על כל זה שזכר לעיל ומה שלא זכר בודאי לא יפסוק מלראות סימן חדש על הבורא יתברך בכל יום ובכל שעה ועיין בחשבון כ"ג:

To not cease to think all the time, every second, and everything that he beholds of G-d's creations, whether it is big or small, and especially on his own self, how G-d guides him in all matters. If a person puts his mind to all these things mentioned earlier, certainly, he will see new marks of the Creator every day and every hour. See also Gate 8 ch.3 #23

**כי אין נראה כו' בעבור האדם כו'**והוא כמשל מלך חכם שבונה בית לבנו וישם לו שם כסא ומטה ושלחן ומנורה ויתר צרכי בנו אבל בודאי יש להאב הזה כמה בתים וסגולת מלכים מה שלא ראה הבן ויוכל לבנות בתים טובים מאלה כמו שמבואר במשל הנמרץ שלפנינו בילד הנולד בבור כו' ולכך ראוי לנו שתהיה יראתו בלבנו כפי גודל יכלתו וגדולתו שאין לו קץ ולא יספיק שנירא מלפניו רק כפי מה שאנו מבינים ממנו מבריותיו כי הוא רק מעט מהרבה:

**אך דמה עצמך כו' והיה שליח המלך בא אליו כו'**כלומר הביא אליו תדיר מה שצריך ובנמשל הם החמה וכל צבא השמים:

**ואמר אני משבח בעל הבור הזה**משמעו שאין לו אלא הבור הזה וכן הכל ולכך אמר לו שהוא גנאי לומר כך כו':

**בגלגל הסובב את הארץ**ר"ל ברקיע השמים שהוא למראה עינינו שהוא לפי ערך גדולתו יתברך כבור להתינוק הנולד בבור וכבר כתבנו לעיל לצייר גודל הכיפה מהשמש כמה היא גדולה והיא איננה רק כמסמר קטן בבית גדול שבמה נחשב הוא ושמא תאמר שאנחנו מבינים עכ"פ הגלגל הזה וכל אשר בתוכו רצה לומר כל העוה"ז ולכך אמר:

**כי אין אנו מבינים מה שיש בבקעה קטנה מן הארץ**שהרי על בקעה אחת צומחים כמה מיני דשאים וירקות ואילנות שהם משונים זה מזה במראיהן וסגולתן ונמצא בבקעה אחת כמה מיני אבנים ומתכות זהב וכסף ברזל ונחושת וכיוצא ואין אתנו יודע עד מה כמה מיני כחות שיש בה ומאיזה כח תצמיח כל אלה וכאשר תחפור תמצא מים מתחת לארץ ואם כך בבקעה אחת קטנה כל שכן כולה וכה"א יעלוז שדי וכל אשר בו וכו':

**והבט אל ספרו ומצותיו וחקיו בעין הגדולה**בעין פקיחא שתבין כל דבר על בוריו כמ"ש בחשבון כ"ד ע"ש וכל זה הוא כדי שתוכל לידע איך לעשות רצון הבורא יתברך כי בלא התורה הנתונה מאתו יתברך איכה נוכל לידע במה עושין רצונו כי כל אחד יוכל לבנות במה לעצמו ולעשות תורה לעצמו ולכך העיקר הוא להביט אל ספרו ולעשות כפיהו:

**והעבר על מחשבתך כו'**ר"ל תשים אל לבך איך אתה מכניע את עצמך לפני עשיר אחד שיש לו יותר ממך ומכ"ש אם הוא מטיב עמך תגדל הטובה אצלך מאד ותירא מפניו ויגדל בעיניך מאחר שהוא איננו צריך אליך ואתה נצרך אליו ומעלתו יתירה על מעלתך:

put to heart how you humble yourself before a rich person who has more than you, and all the more so if he is beneficent towards you, the favor will be great in your eyes, and you will revere him and esteem him since he does not need you, and you need him, and his status is higher than yours. Likewise, you run to do the command of this rich person according to how much he is important in your eyes.

**וכן תהיה למצותיו כו'**וכן אתה רץ לעשות מצות העשיר ההוא כפי מה שהוא חשוב בעיניך:

**והשתדלך וטרחך בעניניו**והשתדל וטרח א"ע לעשות עניניו ועסקיו בכל כחך:

**the more energetically will you strive** -- i.e. strive and labor to do His service with all of your might.

**ותמצא בעז"ה**איך תעבוד את ה' על כמה טובות כפולות למקום עלינו ואילו פינו כו' אין אנו מספיקים והוא אינו צריך לנו ואנחנו צריכין לו כו'. ובמ"ה פירש וז"ל וכן תהיה למצותיו כו' וכ"ש שכן תהיה למצותיו ואזכרותיו של השם יתברך מעלה בלבבך כו' עכ"ל והבוחר יבחר. והאלהים ישימנו מאנשי עבודתו המכירים עניני טובתו ברחמיו וחסדיו אמן:
