**אילו** קרבנו לפני הר סיני ולא נתן לנו את התורה הואיל ופסקה זוהמתנו דיינו להנחילנו העה"ב. ולא די זה אלא רצה ג"כ לתת לנו את התורה הכוללת מנות רבות שברבויין בכל מקום שאנו הולכים נמצא מצות לעשות והן מצרפות איתנו. כי גלוי וידוע היה אצלי יתברך שצריכים היינו לכך להיותם עתידים לעשות העגל. והתורה והמצות מזככות ומצילות אותנו מכל רע.

**אלו קרבנו לפני הר סיני, ולא נתן לנו את־התורה “If God had brought us close to Mount Sinai but had not given us the *Torah*, *dayyenu*.”** Since approaching (Sinai would cut off the poison (of the evil inclination), it would have enough for us to allow us to inherit the World that is Coming. But God wanted to give us the *Torah* as well which contains many commandments. Because there are so many of them wherever we would go we would find a commandment to perform which refines us. It was known and revealed to God that we would need it because we would eventually worship the golden calf. The *Torah* and the commandments would save us from all evil.
