**ובמורא** גדול זו גלוי שכונ' לא שנהנו מראייתה כמו שהיו ישראל נהני' מזיוה אלא בהגלותה נפלה עליה' אימתה ופחד ורעדה אחזתם. וע"ז אמרה תורה וממקדשי תיראו שהוא לומר שכל זמן שהשכינה בתוכו תהיה להם מורא בהכרח. כי היא המטלת מורא על כל העולם. כי הא דתנן הוי מתפלל בשלומה של מלכות שאלמלא מוראה איש את רעהו חיים בלעו. וכן אמר איוב בצאתי שער עלי קרת וגו' ראוני נערי' ונחבאו וגו' שרים עצרו במילין וגו' קול נגידי' נחבאו וגו'. שהוא כי היה מתרעם על חבריו שחושבי' אותו לחוטא והיה או' להם כי הלא כשהיה יוצא לשוק כל מי שהיה מדבר ורואה אותו היה שותק ואינו משמיע קולו מפני מוראו. וזה לא היה אלא מפני שהשכינה עמו. והיא המעלת האימה על בני אדם.

**וּבְמֹרָ֖א גָּדֹ֑ל “And with awesome power” (Deut.26:8) - this is this [refers to the revelation of] the Divine Presence,” (Hag.)** This does not mean that the Egyptians benefited by seeing it as the Israelites benefited from the brightness (of the *Shechinah*). Rather when the Divine Presence was revealed to them, terror, fear, and trembling took hold of them. About this the Torah states, “You shall venerate My sanctuary,” (Lev. 19:30) which means that as long as the Divine Presence dwells among people, they shall experience fear of God. This causes awe upon the whole world. That is why it has been taught, “Pray for the welfare of the kingdom for were it not for fear, people would swallow one another alive.”¹⁴¹ Similarly Job said, “When I passed through the city gates… young men saw me and hid… Nobles held back their words… The voices of princes were hushed…” (Job 29:7-10) because he was complaining that his friends considered him a sinner. So Job said this to them. When he went out to the marketplace, anyone who was talking who saw him became silent because of their awe of him. This was only because the Divine Presence accompanied him, and the Divine Presence caused people to feel terror.
