אמר החכם מי שאינו מתגאה בנפשו הגביהה. והמתגאה השפילה:

המתגאה בנפשו רואה בה מה שהוא גדול ממנה בקלות דעתו. ומראה שמחתו לזה. והוא והנקרא גאוה:

625. The arrogant, in his conceit and self-gratulation, over-rates his own merits,—this constitutes pride.
