בראשונה כו'. מכילתא יתרו פ"א, ולק"ט, ורש"י עה"ת: והוא דעת ר' אלעזר המודעי, ודעת ר' יהושע שנפטרה ממנו בגט, לכן בסיום המאמר תקנתי ד"א אחר שילוחיה ששלחה ונתן לה גט, ושם יליף לה נאמר כאן שילוח, וכתב לה ספר כריתות ונתן בידה ושלחה מביתו (דברים כ"ד ב'), מה להלן בגט אף כאן בגט:

ומי הוא שלא נימול זה אליעזר. וכן הוא בלק"ט שמות ד' כ"ד, וכן הביא הראב"ע בשם רב שמואל בן חפני, וכן רש"י על התורה ויבקש המיתו שלא מל אל אליעזר בנו, וכן בשמ"ר פ"ה אות ח' ונתעצל למול לאליעזר בנו, אמנם בספר הישר איתא שהמעשה היה בגרשום, וגם בילקוט סוף רמ"ז ק"ה הביא בשם דברי הימים של משה רביו וז"ל ויקרא משה שמו גרשום רק לא מל בשר ערלתו בגזירת רעואל חותנו ויהי בעת ההיא מקץ שלש שנים ותהר עולד ותלד בן וימל בשר ערלתו ויקרא שמו אליעזר ע"ש, ובד"ה של משה רבינו הנדפס בבית המדרש ח"ב חסר זה, וכן בתרגום יב"ע עה"ת תרגם ובעא למקטליה מן בגלל גרשום בריה דלא הוה גזיר על עיסק חמוי דלא שבקיה למגזריה ברם אליעזר היה גזר בתנאה דאתנין תרויהון ע"כ, וכיון בזה למאמר המכילת' יתרו פ"א שיתרו התנה עמו בן שיהיה תחלה יהיה לע"ז, מכאן ואילך לשם שמים, וקיבל עליו כו', וגם הראב"ן יסד ביוצר לברית מילה לבני אשכנז, לא מל בכורו ונתבקש במעונה, ועיין ברמב"ן על הכתוב ויקח משה את אשתו ואת בניו, וסיים וכן הזכירו רבותינו כי הנימול הזה הוא אליעזר:
