ו' לא נשמטו מן הזיין אלא עמדו במקומם, בתנחומא הנדפס מכבר אות כ"א הוא הנס השביעי ונס הששי הוא שם נתן כח בעץ לסבול את שניהם, ובעבור זה יש הפרש בין הנסחאות מה שהוא לפנינו נס ז' הוא שם השמיני, וכן מה שהוא לפנינו נס י"א היא שם נס י"ב וכן הגי' שם הי"ב כשיצא עמדו בני שבטו לפגוע בו ירד המלאך ונגף בהם, כשראה פנחס שמבקש לכלותן חבטן בקרקע ועמד והתפלל וסלקו הה"ד ויעמוד פנחס ויפלל, ועיין בספרי בהערות הרב בעל מאיר עין:

מכאן אמרו שלא היה פנחס כהן עד אותה שעה. וז"ל רש"י אעפ"י שכבר ניתנה כהונה לזרעו של אהרן לא ניתנה אלא לאהרן ולבניו שנמשחו עמו ולתולדותיהם שיולידו אחר המשחתן אבל פנחס שנולד קודם לכן ולא נמשח לא בא לכלל כהונה עד כאן, וכן שנינו בזבחים (ק"א ע"ב) לא נתכהן פנחס עד שהרגו לזמרי:
