**(on the 3 terms: permission, decree, judgment)** -- To not think that some human being's advice can possibly be beneficial unless it is through the permission and decree of the Creator. For example, regarding the healing of a sick person, the talmud expounds [on the verse shmos 21:19]: "from this we learn that permission has been given to the physician to heal". The power in nature to heal through medicinal means is a permission of the Creator. This is a universal matter. And this is combined with the decree of G-d who decreed that this illness be healed through this specific doctor, as the talmud says (Avoda Zara 58a) "through such and such a doctor, using such and such a medicine". This is for the good category. On the bad category, if a man planned to harm him and succeeded, or that he led him in the bad path, and caused him to stumble, certainly, this judgment was sentenced by G-d, otherwise, he would not have succeeded.

If you ask: "why was it considered a lacking by Moshe but not by Shmuel?". The answer is that Moshe was commanded "go and speak...", therefore certainly he will be granted the power of speech and he will be able to speak, therefore [G-d rebuked him]: "Who has made a man's mouth?.." **במה שנהגו לדחותו**לפי שאין בם דברים ברורים כ"כ שנוכל לסמוך שדבר פלוני יועיל בודאי למדוה פלוני רק אחר שנהגו בכך דעתו של אדם סומכת עליהם והוא לקוח מל' רז"ל באמרם הנכנס להקיז דם אומר יהי רצון שיהיה עסק זה כו' שאין דרכם של בני אדם להתרפאות אלא שנהגו עד כאן נוסח הגמרא והכוונה בנוסח זה ליתן טעם על בקשת הרחמים בעסק רפואה ולא כן בשארי דברים כמו בלקיחת המזון שאין מתפללים שיועיל לו המזון לשבר הרעבון אע"פ שגם הרעבון והשבר דומים למחלה ורפואה כמו שכתב הרמב"ם ז"ל לזה אמר שאין דומה זה לזה ששם שם הבורא הדבר ביד האדם שאם יאכל בודאי ישבור רעבונו ולהפך אם לא יקח המזון בודאי ימות ברעב והרי לקיחת המזון היא הדרך הסלולה לשבר הרעבון בודאי והושמה ביד האדם לדבר ברור ויתכן לקרותה דרך בני אדם משא"כ בלקיחת הרפואה שלא יצדק לקרותה דרך בני אדם שאיננה דרך סלולה ובטוחה ולא נתלית בפעילת אדם שהרי כמה פעמים אין פעולת האדם מועלת והרבה פעמים נרפא המחלה בלי שום פעולה וז"א שאין דרך בני אדם להתרפאות אלא שכבר נהגו בני אדם בכך והותר לנו הדבר אולם צריכין אנו לבקש ממי שהוא בעל הדרך הזה והבן:

the Creator will make this thing a strong means to test him. A man is tested in this more than any other test, because the magnitude of a test is measured by the greatness of the temptation of the evil inclination, and certainly the temptation of the evil inclination in this is exceedingly strong, to close one's hand from providing for the poor and destitute, and to not be concerned about providing their needs, thereby diminishing his wealth, as written in Devarim 15:9: "Guard yourself lest there be in your heart", and this is what he meant by "tests and sources of temptation".

He specified 4 points (distraction of the heart, great loss, great exertion and strain), the first two is the harm from desiring them, namely, when they are near, the eye sees them and the heart desires and he becomes always distracted from them, on this he wrote "distraction of the heart". And inevitably the constant desire will bring him to habitually have marital relations with them always. This causes great loss to a man's strength and health as the Rambam wrote in Hilchos Deos 4:19, on this he wrote "great loss". The latter two are the damages which come from providing for their needs (ex.big house). That when they are near, they persuade their husbands and act playfully and seek luxuries which brings to two harmful things, namely, "great exertion" in exerting oneself to provide for their needs and "strain" of the mind in the mental distraction of providing their needs. And the Sages already said (Sotah 47a): "yetzer, child, and woman, let one's left hand push away while the right hand draws near".

In his examples, he first wrote "fasting" and "praying", since these mitzvos are logical, and were practiced before the giving of the torah. Adam also fasted and prayed for his sin. **after it had been purified and made radiant when its deeds were good in this world** -- i.e. the soul will attain this through purifying itself in this world. He specified two terms "purified" and "made radiant" because there are two evils which the soul is susceptible to from the entanglement and sickness of physicality. One, that the physicality defiles it by causing it to do bad deeds and sins. Two, the defilement from the superfluous desires. Even though the latter does not cause "corrosion" on it as much as much as sins do, nevertheless, it will not escape from some defilement and filth which it absorbs from the physical.

Two forms of strain are needed in the study of [torah] wisdom. One, that a person is required to be imprisoned in the prison of the study halls of wisdom, to be constantly entrenched at the feet of the sages, as the talmud says: "it (the torah) is not to be found among merchants and dealers" (Eruvin 55a), and likewise in Shabbos (120a) on the verse "I will not be a chovesh (binder up)" [the talmud expounds:] "I will not be of those who shut themselves up in the Beit Hamidrash (house of torah study)". Two, the strain of the learning itself, as the talmud says (Sanhedrin 26b): "why is the torah called tushia (in Isaiah 28:29)? Because it weakens the strength of man [through constant study]".

The above verse mentioned "fear" which is concealed in the heart of a person, and ascribed to it concealed reward [in future tense]. Afterwards, the verse continues that those who "take refuge" in Him, i.e. who cling to Him in acts which are visible before the eyes of "the sons of men", and on these G-d already payed the reward, hence "which you have done" is in past tense.

**הבאה בספר דברי הנביא כו'**שהגמול והעונש הנמצא בספר מספרי הקודש הם דברי הנביא כלו' שהמליצה באה בסגנון שהנביא מדבר עם המון העולם ולא שהוא יתברך מדבר זה שאלו היה בא בסגנון שהוא יתברך המדבר היה מדבר כפי איכות עולמו הרוחני אולם הנביא שהוא בן אדם ומדבר עם בני אדם באים הדברים כפי איכות עולמם הזה ואף שהמליצה באה בפ' בחקתי כאלו הוא ית' מדבר בעדו באמרו הרבה פעמים והלכתי עמכם וכו' ואף אני וכו' והבאתי עליכם וכו' אעפ"כ להיותם נשמעת לאזני ההמון מפי הנביא באה בסגנון אנושי:
