**purify your heart** -- that one's heart is simple, without ulterior motives or pretentiousness, while "refine your soul" refers to refining the soul through deeds, either by doing good, or refraining from evil.

**ושם עינו ולבו**שתי מלות אלו הם נגד ההשגחם שהרי המשגיח צריך לראות תחלה מה שחסר להמושגח ואחר כך ישים לבו איך למלאות חסרונו וכבר הושאלה מליצם זו גם אצלו יתברך שנאמר והיו עיני ולבי שם כל הימים:
