###### Psalms 10:1

לָמָ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה תַּעֲמֹ֣ד בְּרָח֑וֹק תַּ֝עְלִ֗ים לְעִתּ֥וֹת בַּצָּרָֽה׃

Why standest Thou afar off, O Lord? why hidest Thou Thyself in times of trouble?

Why, O L rd, do You stand at a distance? Why do You hide [Your eyes] to times of affliction?


###### Psalms 10:2

בְּגַאֲוַ֣ת רָ֭שָׁע יִדְלַ֣ק עָנִ֑י יִתָּפְשׂ֓וּ**׀** בִּמְזִמּ֖וֹת ז֣וּ חָשָֽׁבוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The wicked in his pride hotly pursues the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

The evil-doer, in his pride, pursued the poor. They [the poor] are seized in the plots that they [the wicked] contrived.


###### Psalms 10:3

כִּֽי־הִלֵּ֣ל רָ֭שָׁע עַל־תַּאֲוַ֣ת נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וּבֹצֵ֥עַ בֵּ֝רֵ֗ךְ נִ֘אֵ֥ץ׀יְהֹוָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire, and the greedy wretch curses and renounces the Lord.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
["Why, O L rd, do You stand at a distance?"] For [now that You do,] the evil-doer vaunts himself [in having attained all] the lust of his soul, and the robber blesses [himself, saying that] he has despised the L rd [and will not be held accountable for it].


###### Psalms 10:4

רָשָׁ֗ע כְּגֹ֣בַהּ אַ֭פּוֹ בַּל־יִדְרֹ֑שׁ אֵ֥ין אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים כׇּל־מְזִמּוֹתָֽיו׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance thinks, He will not seek out: all his thoughts are, God is not.

The evil-doer, in the height of his vanity, [says to himself:] He [the L rd] will not inquire [into my deeds]. All of his thoughts are: There is no Judge.


###### Psalms 10:5

יָ֘חִ֤ילוּ דְרָכָ֨ו**׀** בְּכׇל־עֵ֗ת מָר֣וֹם מִ֭שְׁפָּטֶיךָ מִנֶּגְדּ֑וֹ כׇּל־צ֝וֹרְרָ֗יו יָפִ֥יחַ בָּהֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
His ways are always strong; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he hisses at them.

His ways prosper at all times. Your judgments [i.e., afflictions] are removed from him. All of his enemies — he whiffs them away.


###### Psalms 10:6

אָמַ֣ר בְּ֭לִבּוֹ בַּל־אֶמּ֑וֹט לְדֹ֥ר וָ֝דֹ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא־בְרָֽע׃

He says in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.

He says in his heart: I will never fall. In all [of my] generations, evil will not [befall me].


###### Psalms 10:7

אָלָ֤ה**׀** פִּ֣יהוּ מָ֭לֵא וּמִרְמ֣וֹת וָתֹ֑ךְ תַּ֥חַת לְ֝שׁוֹנ֗וֹ עָמָ֥ל וָאָֽוֶן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.

His mouth is full of [false] oaths, deceit, and guile. Vanity and wickedness is beneath his tongue.


###### Psalms 10:8

יֵשֵׁ֤ב**׀** בְּמַאְרַ֬ב חֲצֵרִ֗ים בַּֽ֭מִּסְתָּרִים יַהֲרֹ֣ג נָקִ֑י עֵ֝ינָ֗יו לְֽחֵלְכָ֥ה יִצְפֹּֽנוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places he murders the innocent: his eyes stealthily watch for the helpless.

He sits in the ambush of the courtyard and kills the clean one in concealment. His [Esav's] eyes lurk against Your host [Israel].


###### Psalms 10:9

יֶאֱרֹ֬ב בַּמִּסְתָּ֨ר**׀** כְּאַרְיֵ֬ה בְסֻכֹּ֗ה יֶ֭אֱרֹב לַחֲט֣וֹף עָנִ֑י יַחְטֹ֥ף עָ֝נִ֗י בְּמׇשְׁכ֥וֹ בְרִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
He lies in wait secretly like a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he catches the poor, when he draws him into his net.

He lurks in concealment as a lion in his lair. He lurks to snatch the poor one. He snatches the poor one, pulling him into his net.


###### Psalms 10:10

(ודכה) [יִדְכֶּ֥ה] יָשֹׁ֑חַ וְנָפַ֥ל בַּ֝עֲצוּמָ֗יו (חלכאים) [חֵ֣ל כָּאִֽים]׃

The helpless collapse: they bow down, and fall into his power.

He crouches, he bends low, and there fall by his winks the host of the broken.

אָמַ֣ר בְּ֭לִבּוֹ שָׁ֣כַֽח אֵ֑ל הִסְתִּ֥יר פָּ֝נָ֗יו בַּל־רָאָ֥ה לָנֶֽצַח׃

He says in his heart, God has forgotten: he hides his face; he will never see it.

He says in his heart that G d has forgotten, that He has concealed His countenance, [and that] He never sees.

קוּמָ֤ה יְהֹוָ֗ה אֵ֭ל נְשָׂ֣א יָדֶ֑ךָ אַל־תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח (עניים) [עֲנָוִֽים]׃

Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up Thy hand: forget not the humble.

###### Psalms 10:13

עַל־מֶ֤ה**׀** נִאֵ֖ץ רָשָׁ֥ע׀אֱלֹהִ֑ים אָמַ֥ר בְּ֝לִבּ֗וֹ לֹ֣א תִדְרֹֽשׁ׃

Why does the wicked man renounce God? he says in his heart, Thou wilt not avenge.

Why does the evil-doer despise G d in his heart? [Because] he says in his heart that You do not seek out [his deeds].


###### Psalms 10:14

רָאִ֡תָה כִּי־אַתָּ֤ה**׀** עָ֘מָ֤ל וָכַ֨עַס**׀** תַּבִּיט֮ לָתֵ֢ת בְּיָ֫דֶ֥ךָ עָ֭לֶיךָ יַעֲזֹ֣ב חֵלֵ֑כָה יָ֝ת֗וֹם אַתָּ֤ה**׀** הָיִ֬יתָ עוֹזֵֽר׃

Thou hast seen it; for Thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with Thy hand: the helpless man commits himself to Thee; Thou art the helper of the fatherless.

[But] You have seen [his deeds (and yet do not [immediately] retaliate)]. For [it is Your way] to look on at the wrong and the wrath [of the evil-doers] and to give [them power] with Your [own] hand [to prosper in their wickedness]. Your host [Israel] leaves [the burden of punishment] to You, [knowing that] You have [always] aided the orphan.


###### Psalms 10:15

שְׁ֭בֹר זְר֣וֹעַ רָשָׁ֑ע וָ֝רָ֗ע תִּֽדְרוֹשׁ־רִשְׁע֥וֹ בַל־תִּמְצָֽא׃

Break Thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till Thou find none left.

Break the arm of the wicked [Esav], and when You inquire after his [Israel's] evil, You will not find (it) [i.e., When the evil-doers of Israel see that the wicked of Esav are broken, they will leave off doing evil.]


###### Psalms 10:16

יְהֹוָ֣ה מֶ֭לֶךְ עוֹלָ֣ם וָעֶ֑ד אָבְד֥וּ ג֝וֹיִ֗ם מֵאַרְצֽוֹ׃

The Lord is King for ever and ever: the nations are perished out of his land.

The L rd will be King forever, [after] the nations go lost from His land.


###### Psalms 10:17

תַּאֲוַ֬ת עֲנָוִ֣ים שָׁמַ֣עְתָּ יְהֹוָ֑ה תָּכִ֥ין לִ֝בָּ֗ם תַּקְשִׁ֥יב אׇזְנֶֽךָ׃

Lord, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt strengthen their heart, Thou wilt cause Thy ear to hear:

The desire of the humble You have heard, O L rd; ready their hearts, let Your ears listen [to their prayers].


###### Psalms 10:18

לִשְׁפֹּ֥ט יָת֗וֹם וָ֫דָ֥ךְ בַּל־יוֹסִ֥יף ע֑וֹד לַעֲרֹ֥ץ אֱ֝נ֗וֹשׁ מִן־הָאָֽרֶץ׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, so that none shall any longer terrify innocent men from the earth.

To execute judgment on behalf of the orphan and the broken [i.e., Israel], so that he [Yishmael and Esav] no longer break the afflicted from the earth.
