## Psalms Chapter 14

###### Psalms 14:1

לַמְנַצֵּ֗חַ לְדָ֫וִ֥ד אָ֘מַ֤ר נָבָ֣ל בְּ֭לִבּוֹ אֵ֣ין אֱלֹהִ֑ים הִֽשְׁחִ֗יתוּ הִֽתְעִ֥יבוּ עֲלִילָ֗ה אֵ֣ין עֹֽשֵׂה־טֽוֹב׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
To the chief Musician, of David. The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that does good.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
For the conductor, [a psalm] of David. The profligate [(Nevuchadnezzar, in destroying the Temple)], says in his heart: "There is no G d" [viz. Isaiah 14:14]. They have destroyed. They have performed abominations. There is none [among them] that does good.


###### Psalms 14:2

יְֽהֹוָ֗ה מִשָּׁמַיִם֮ הִשְׁקִ֢יף עַֽל־בְּנֵי־אָ֫דָ֥ם לִ֭רְאוֹת הֲיֵ֣שׁ מַשְׂכִּ֑יל דֹּ֝רֵ֗שׁ אֶת־אֱלֹהִֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that understood, and sought God.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
The L rd looks from the heavens upon the sons of men to see if there is a knowing one [(who would protest)], who would inquire after G d.


###### Psalms 14:3

הַכֹּ֥ל סָר֮ יַחְדָּ֢ו נֶ֫אֱלָ֥חוּ אֵ֤ין עֹֽשֵׂה־ט֑וֹב אֵ֝֗ין גַּם־אֶחָֽד׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that does good, no, not one.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
All [(of the men in Nevuchadnezzar's host)] stray together [(none protesting)]; they are [all] corrupt; none does good — not even one.


###### Psalms 14:4

הֲלֹ֥א יָדְעוּ֮ כׇּל־פֹּ֢עֲלֵ֫י אָ֥וֶן אֹכְלֵ֣י עַ֭מִּי אָ֣כְלוּ לֶ֑חֶם יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה לֹ֣א קָרָֽאוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
Did they not know, all the workers of iniquity, [what would befall them]? The devourers of My people [(the seed of Nevuchadnezzar)] made a feast [(Belshazzar's feast, viz. Daniel 5:1)]. Upon the L rd they did not call [(They were not mindful of His awesome wonders and supped in the Temple vessels)].


###### Psalms 14:5

שָׁ֤ם**׀** פָּ֣חֲדוּ פָ֑חַד כִּֽי־אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים בְּד֣וֹר צַדִּֽיק׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
There [(at the feast)] they feared mightily [(Belshazzar receiving his recompense [viz. Daniel 5:6-30])]; for G d was with the [righteous] generation of the tzaddik [King Yechaniah].


###### Psalms 14:6

עֲצַת־עָנִ֥י תָבִ֑ישׁוּ כִּ֖י יְהֹוָ֣ה מַחְסֵֽהוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
You shame the counsel of the poor, because the Lord is his refuge.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
You [(the wicked)] despise the counsel of the poor one [Israel], for the L rd is his refuge [(and you mock this trust)].


###### Psalms 14:7

מִ֥י־יִתֵּ֣ן מִצִּיּוֹן֮ יְשׁוּעַ֢ת יִשְׂרָ֫אֵ֥ל בְּשׁ֣וּב יְ֭הֹוָה שְׁב֣וּת עַמּ֑וֹ יָגֵ֥ל יַ֝עֲקֹ֗ב יִשְׂמַ֥ח יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Oh that the salvation of Yisra᾽el were come out of Żiyyon! when the Lord brings back the captivity of his people, Ya῾aqov shall rejoice, and Yisra᾽el shall be glad.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
Would that [the day drew near of] His sending from Zion the salvation of Israel, when the L rd will return the captivity of His people. [Then] Jacob will regale; Israel will rejoice. [Compare Psalms 53]
