## Psalms Chapter 143

###### Psalms 143:1

מִזְמ֗וֹר לְדָ֫וִ֥ד יְהֹוָ֤ה**׀** שְׁמַ֬ע תְּפִלָּתִ֗י הַאֲזִ֥ינָה אֶל־תַּחֲנוּנַ֑י בֶּאֱמֻנָתְךָ֥ עֲ֝נֵ֗נִי בְּצִדְקָתֶֽךָ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
A Psalm of David. Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in Thy faithfulness answer me, in thy righteousness.

A psalm of David. O L rd, listen to my prayer. For Your trust [i.e., to realize You assurance to me], answer me in Your righteousness.


###### Psalms 143:2

וְאַל־תָּב֣וֹא בְ֭מִשְׁפָּט אֶת־עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ כִּ֤י לֹֽא־יִצְדַּ֖ק לְפָנֶ֣יךָ כׇל־חָֽי׃

And enter not into judgment with Thy servant: for in Thy sight shall no man living be justified.

And do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for no living being will be found righteous before You.

כִּ֥י רָ֘דַ֤ף אוֹיֵ֨ב**׀** נַפְשִׁ֗י דִּכָּ֣א לָ֭אָרֶץ חַיָּתִ֑י הוֹשִׁבַ֥נִי בְ֝מַחֲשַׁכִּ֗ים כְּמֵתֵ֥י עוֹלָֽם׃

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has trodden my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

[(And if I [Israel in the Babylonian exile] have sinned, I have already been smitten)], for the foe has pursued my life. He has pressed my soul to the ground. He has seated me in darkness as the dead of yore.


###### Psalms 143:4

וַתִּתְעַטֵּ֣ף עָלַ֣י רוּחִ֑י בְּ֝תוֹכִ֗י יִשְׁתּוֹמֵ֥ם לִבִּֽי׃

Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled.

The spirit that is upon me grows faint and my heart is confounded within me.

זָ֘כַ֤רְתִּי יָמִ֨ים**׀** מִקֶּ֗דֶם הָגִ֥יתִי בְכׇל־פׇּעֳלֶ֑ךָ בְּֽמַעֲשֵׂ֖ה יָדֶ֣יךָ אֲשׂוֹחֵֽחַ׃

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Thy works; I muse on the work of Thy hands.

I remember my former days [(all of the miracles You wrought for us)] and contemplate all of Your acts, and speak of the deeds of Your hands.

פֵּרַ֣שְׂתִּי יָדַ֣י אֵלֶ֑יךָ נַפְשִׁ֓י**׀** כְּאֶרֶץ־עֲיֵפָ֖ה לְךָ֣ סֶֽלָה׃

I stretch forth my hands to Thee: my soul thirsts after Thee, like a thirsty land. (Sela.)

I spread my hands out to You [in prayer]. My soul [in exile] is as the parched land, [yearning] to You, always.

מַ֘הֵ֤ר עֲנֵ֨נִי**׀** יְהֹוָה֮ כָּלְתָ֢ה ר֫וּחִ֥י אַל־תַּסְתֵּ֣ר פָּנֶ֣יךָ מִמֶּ֑נִּי וְ֝נִמְשַׁ֗לְתִּי עִם־יֹ֥רְדֵי בֽוֹר׃

Answer me speedily, O Lord: my spirit fails: do not hide Thy face from me, lest I be like those who go down into the pit.

Make haste, answer me, O L rd; my spirit goes out. Do not conceal Your face from me to have me likened to those who descend to the pit.


###### Psalms 143:8

הַשְׁמִ֘יעֵ֤נִי בַבֹּ֨קֶר**׀** חַסְדֶּךָ֮ כִּֽי־בְךָ֢ בָ֫טָ֥חְתִּי הוֹדִיעֵ֗נִי דֶּרֶךְ־ז֥וּ אֵלֵ֑ךְ כִּי־אֵ֝לֶ֗יךָ נָשָׂ֥אתִי נַפְשִֽׁי׃

Cause me to hear Thy words of steadfast love in the morning; for in Thee do I trust: cause me to know the way in which I should walk; for I lift up my soul to Thee.

Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning [of redemption], for I have trusted in You. Let me know the road that I must walk, for I have lifted my spirit unto You [for the acceptance of my prayer].

הַצִּילֵ֖נִי מֵאֹיְבַ֥י׀יְהֹוָ֗ה אֵלֶ֥יךָ כִסִּֽתִי׃

Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies: I flee to Thee to hide me.

Rescue me from my foes, O L rd. With You [alone] have I concealed [my tribulations, revealing them to no men].

לַמְּדֵ֤נִי**׀** לַ֥עֲשׂ֣וֹת רְצוֹנֶךָ֮ כִּֽי־אַתָּ֢ה אֱל֫וֹהָ֥י רוּחֲךָ֥ טוֹבָ֑ה תַּ֝נְחֵ֗נִי בְּאֶ֣רֶץ מִישֽׁוֹר׃

Teach me to do Thy will; for Thou art my God: let Thy good spirit lead me into a level land.

Instruct me to do Your will, for You are my G d. Your goodly will shall lead me on level land.

לְמַעַן־שִׁמְךָ֣ יְהֹוָ֣ה תְּחַיֵּ֑נִי בְּצִדְקָתְךָ֓**׀** תּוֹצִ֖יא מִצָּרָ֣ה נַפְשִֽׁי׃

Revive me, O Lord, for Thy name’s sake: for Thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.

For Your name's sake, O L rd, sustain me. In Your righteousness, free my soul from affliction.


###### Psalms 143:12

וּֽבְחַסְדְּךָ֮ תַּצְמִ֢ית אֹ֫יְבָ֥י וְֽ֭הַאֲבַדְתָּ כׇּל־צֹרְרֵ֣י נַפְשִׁ֑י כִּ֝֗י אֲנִ֣י עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃{פ}

And in Thy mercy cut off my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul: for I am Thy servant.

And in Your lovingkindness, cut off my foes and destroy all the oppressors of my spirit, for I am Your servant.
