## Psalms Chapter 27

###### Psalms 27:1

לְדָוִ֨ד**׀** יְהֹוָ֤ה**׀** אוֹרִ֣י וְ֭יִשְׁעִי מִמִּ֣י אִירָ֑א יְהֹוָ֥ה מָעוֹז־חַ֝יַּ֗י מִמִּ֥י אֶפְחָֽד׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Of David. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

[A psalm] of David. The L rd is my light and my help. Whom shall I fear? The L rd is the strength of my life. Who shall affright me?


###### Psalms 27:2

בִּקְרֹ֤ב עָלַ֨י**׀** מְרֵעִים֮ לֶאֱכֹ֢ל אֶת־בְּשָׂ֫רִ֥י צָרַ֣י וְאֹיְבַ֣י לִ֑י הֵ֖מָּה כָשְׁל֣וּ וְנָפָֽלוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
When the wicked, my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

When evildoers draw near to devour my flesh — my oppressors and my foes — they stumble and fall.


###### Psalms 27:3

אִם־תַּחֲנֶ֬ה עָלַ֨י**׀** מַחֲנֶה֮ לֹא־יִירָ֢א לִ֫בִּ֥י אִם־תָּק֣וּם עָ֭לַי מִלְחָמָ֑ה בְּ֝זֹ֗את אֲנִ֣י בוֹטֵֽחַ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Though a host should camp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
If a camp encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. If a war arise against me, in this [(the above creed)] I trust.


###### Psalms 27:4

אַחַ֤ת**׀** שָׁאַ֣לְתִּי מֵאֵת־יְהֹוָה֮ אוֹתָ֢הּ אֲבַ֫קֵּ֥שׁ שִׁבְתִּ֣י בְּבֵית־יְ֭הֹוָה כׇּל־יְמֵ֣י חַיַּ֑י לַחֲז֥וֹת בְּנֹעַם־יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה וּלְבַקֵּ֥ר בְּהֵֽיכָלֽוֹ׃

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.

One thing have I asked of the L rd. That shall I seek. To sit in the house of the L rd all the days of my life. To look upon the pleasantness of the L rd and to pay attendance every morning in His sanctuary.


###### Psalms 27:5

כִּ֤י יִצְפְּנֵ֨נִי**׀** בְּסֻכֹּה֮ בְּי֢וֹם רָ֫עָ֥ה יַ֭סְתִּרֵנִי בְּסֵ֣תֶר אׇהֳל֑וֹ בְּ֝צ֗וּר יְרוֹמְמֵֽנִי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For in the day of evil he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the covert of his tent he shall hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.

For [I know that] He will secure me in His sanctuary. On an evil day He will hide me in the covert of His tent. [As] on a rock, He will lift me.


###### Psalms 27:6

וְעַתָּ֨ה יָר֪וּם רֹאשִׁ֡י עַ֤ל אֹיְבַ֬י סְֽבִיבוֹתַ֗י וְאֶזְבְּחָ֣ה בְ֭אׇהֳלוֹ זִבְחֵ֣י תְרוּעָ֑ה אָשִׁ֥ירָה וַ֝אֲזַמְּרָ֗ה לַֽיהֹוָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies round about me: therefore I will offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, and I will make melody to the Lord.

And now, let my head be [ever] lifted above my foes roundabout, and [then] I shall slaughter in His tent offerings of exultation [i.e., accompanied by song]. I shall sing and intone psalms to the L rd.


###### Psalms 27:7

שְׁמַע־יְהֹוָ֖ה קוֹלִ֥י אֶקְרָ֗א וְחׇנֵּ֥נִי וַעֲנֵֽנִי׃

Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: be gracious to me, and answer me.

Hear, O L rd, my voice as I call; and be gracious unto me, and answer me.


###### Psalms 27:8

לְךָ֤**׀** אָמַ֣ר לִ֭בִּי בַּקְּשׁ֣וּ פָנָ֑י אֶת־פָּנֶ֖יךָ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֲבַקֵּֽשׁ׃

Of Thee my heart has said, Seek my face. Thy face, O Lord, I seek.

On Your behalf [i.e., as Your emissary], my heart says: "Seek My presence [Israel]." [And, accordingly,] Your presence, O L rd, will I seek.


###### Psalms 27:9

אַל־תַּסְתֵּ֬ר פָּנֶ֨יךָ**׀** מִמֶּנִּי֮ אַ֥ל תַּט־בְּאַ֗ף עַ֫בְדֶּ֥ךָ עֶזְרָתִ֥י הָיִ֑יתָ אַֽל־תִּטְּשֵׁ֥נִי וְאַל־תַּ֝עַזְבֵ֗נִי אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׁעִֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Hide not Thy face from me; put not Thy servant away in anger: Thou hast been my help; abandon me not, nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.

Do not hide Your face from me. Do not subdue Your servant with [Your] wrath. You have [ever] been my help. Do not leave me and do not forsake me, O G d of my salvation.


###### Psalms 27:10

כִּֽי־אָבִ֣י וְאִמִּ֣י עֲזָב֑וּנִי וַֽיהֹוָ֣ה יַאַסְפֵֽנִי׃

For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up.

For my father and my mother have left me, but the L rd has gathered me in.


###### Psalms 27:11

ה֤וֹרֵ֥נִי יְהֹוָ֗ה דַּ֫רְכֶּ֥ךָ וּ֭נְחֵנִי בְּאֹ֣רַח מִישׁ֑וֹר לְ֝מַ֗עַן שֽׁוֹרְרָֽי׃

Teach me Thy way, O Lord, and lead me in an even path, because of my enemies.

Teach me, O L rd, Your ways, and lead me in a straight path for the sake of [the undoing of] those who eye me [for evil].


###### Psalms 27:12

אַֽל־תִּ֭תְּנֵנִי בְּנֶ֣פֶשׁ צָרָ֑י כִּ֥י קָמוּ־בִ֥י עֵדֵי־שֶׁ֝֗קֶר וִיפֵ֥חַ חָמָֽס׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Deliver me not over to the will of my enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out violence.

Deliver me not to the desire of my foes; for false witnesses have risen against me, and spouters of violence.


###### Psalms 27:13

לׅׄוּׅׄלֵׅ֗ׄאׅׄ הֶ֭אֱמַנְתִּי לִרְא֥וֹת בְּֽטוּב־יְהֹוָ֗ה בְּאֶ֣רֶץ חַיִּֽים׃

Were it not that I believed I should see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

[And they would already have destroyed me] had I not believed in seeing the good of the L rd in the land of the living.


###### Psalms 27:14

קַוֵּ֗ה אֶל־יְ֫הֹוָ֥ה חֲ֭זַק וְיַאֲמֵ֣ץ לִבֶּ֑ךָ וְ֝קַוֵּ֗ה אֶל־יְהֹוָֽה׃{פ}

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thy heart: and wait on the Lord.

Hope to the L rd; be strong, and let your heart take courage, and [(if your prayer is not answered, then, again,)] hope to the L rd.
