בְּךָֽ־יְהֹוָ֣ה חָ֭סִיתִי אַל־אֵב֣וֹשָׁה לְעוֹלָ֑ם בְּצִדְקָתְךָ֥ פַלְּטֵֽנִי׃

In Thee, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in Thy righteousness.

הַטֵּ֤ה אֵלַ֨י**׀** אׇזְנְךָ֮ מְהֵרָ֢ה הַצִּ֫ילֵ֥נִי הֱיֵ֤ה לִ֨י**׀** לְֽצוּר־מָ֭עוֹז לְבֵ֥ית מְצוּד֗וֹת לְהוֹשִׁיעֵֽנִי׃

Incline Thy ear to me; deliver me speedily: be Thou my strong rock, a fortress of defence to save me.

כִּֽי־סַלְעִ֣י וּמְצוּדָתִ֣י אָ֑תָּה וּלְמַ֥עַן שִׁ֝מְךָ֗ תַּֽנְחֵ֥נִי וּֽתְנַהֲלֵֽנִי׃

For Thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for Thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

Pull me out of the net that they have hidden for me: for Thou art my stronghold.

Into Thy hand I commit my spirit: Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.

שָׂנֵ֗אתִי הַשֹּׁמְרִ֥ים הַבְלֵי־שָׁ֑וְא וַ֝אֲנִ֗י אֶל־יְהֹוָ֥ה בָּטָֽחְתִּי׃

I hate them that regard vain idols: but I trust in the Lord.

אָגִ֥ילָה וְאֶשְׂמְחָ֗ה בְּחַ֫סְדֶּ֥ךָ אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָ֭אִיתָ אֶת־עׇנְיִ֑י יָ֝דַ֗עְתָּ בְּצָר֥וֹת נַפְשִֽׁי׃

I will be glad and rejoice in Thy loyal love: for Thou hast considered my affliction: Thou hast known the troubles of my soul;

I shall regale and rejoice in Your lovingkindness; in Your seeing my affliction; in Your knowing the straits of my soul.

וְלֹ֣א הִ֭סְגַּרְתַּנִי בְּיַד־אוֹיֵ֑ב הֶעֱמַ֖דְתָּ בַמֶּרְחָ֣ב רַגְלָֽי׃

and Thou hast not delivered me up into the hand of the enemy: Thou hast set my feet in a broad place.

Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: my eye is consumed with grief, my soul and my body.

כִּ֤י כָל֪וּ בְיָג֡וֹן חַיַּי֮ וּשְׁנוֹתַ֢י בַּאֲנָ֫חָ֥ה כָּשַׁ֣ל בַּעֲוֺנִ֣י כֹחִ֑י וַעֲצָמַ֥י עָשֵֽׁשׁוּ׃

For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones are wasted away.

מִכׇּל־צֹרְרַ֨י הָיִ֪יתִי חֶרְפָּ֡ה וְלִ֥שְׁכֵנַ֨י**׀** מְאֹד֮ וּפַ֢חַד לִֽמְיֻדָּ֫עָ֥י רֹאַ֥י בַּח֑וּץ נָדְד֥וּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

I am the scorn of all my adversaries, and very much of my neighbours, and a dread to my acquaintances: those who see me in the street flee from me.

I have been [rendered an object of] fear to those who know me. Those who see me out [of doors] move away from me.

נִ֭שְׁכַּחְתִּי כְּמֵ֣ת מִלֵּ֑ב הָ֝יִ֗יתִי כִּכְלִ֥י אֹבֵֽד׃

I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.

I have been forgotten, as a dead one, from the heart; I have become as a lost vessel.

כִּ֤י שָׁמַ֨עְתִּי**׀** דִּבַּ֥ת רַבִּים֮ מָג֢וֹר מִסָּ֫בִ֥יב בְּהִוָּסְדָ֣ם יַ֣חַד עָלַ֑י לָקַ֖חַת נַפְשִׁ֣י זָמָֽמוּ׃

For I have heard the slander of many: fear on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

For I have heard the plotting of the many, [who strike me with] terror roundabout, when they take counsel together against me, scheming to take my soul.

וַאֲנִ֤י**׀** עָלֶ֣יךָ בָטַ֣חְתִּי יְהֹוָ֑ה אָ֝מַ֗רְתִּי אֱלֹהַ֥י אָֽתָּה׃

But I trusted in Thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God.

בְּיָדְךָ֥ עִתֹּתָ֑י הַצִּ֘ילֵ֤נִי מִיַּד־א֝וֹיְבַ֗י וּמֵֽרֹדְפָֽי׃

My times are in Thy hand: deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.

Let me not be ashamed, O Lord; for I have called upon Thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in She᾽ol.

תֵּ֥אָלַ֗מְנָה שִׂפְתֵ֫י־שָׁ֥קֶר הַדֹּבְר֖וֹת עַל־צַדִּ֥יק עָתָ֗ק בְּגַאֲוָ֥ה וָבֽוּז׃

Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak arrogant words, proudly and contemptuously, against the righteous.

Let the lying lips be silenced, which speak falsehood against the righteous one [(saying to Saul about me: "David is plotting against you")], in haughtiness and scorn.


###### Psalms 31:20

מָ֤ה רַֽב־טוּבְךָ֮ אֲשֶׁר־צָפַ֢נְתָּ לִּירֵ֫אֶ֥יךָ פָּ֭עַלְתָּ לַחֹסִ֣ים בָּ֑ךְ נֶ֝֗גֶד בְּנֵ֣י אָדָֽם׃

Oh how great is Thy goodness, which Thou has laid up for those who fear Thee; which Thou hast performed for those who trust in Thee in the sight of the sons of men!

How great is Your good that You have stored up [(in the world to come)] for those who fear You! [But] would that You wrought for those who take shelter in You against the sons of men [(in this world)]!


###### Psalms 31:21

תַּסְתִּירֵ֤ם**׀** בְּסֵ֥תֶר פָּנֶיךָ֮ מֵרֻכְסֵ֫י־אִ֥ישׁ תִּצְפְּנֵ֥ם בְּסֻכָּ֗ה מֵרִ֥יב לְשֹׁנֽוֹת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thou hidest them in the covert of Thy presence from the plots of men: Thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Hide them [("those who take shelter in You")] in the covert of Your countenance from those who band [against them]. Secrete them in concealment from the taunting of tongues.

בָּר֥וּךְ יְהֹוָ֑ה כִּ֥י הִפְלִ֘יא־חַסְדּ֥וֹ לִ֝֗י בְּעִ֣יר מָצֽוֹר׃

Blessed be the Lord: for he has shown me his marvellous love in a strong city.

וַאֲנִ֤י**׀** אָ֘מַ֤רְתִּי בְחׇפְזִ֗י נִגְרַזְתִּי֮ מִנֶּ֢גֶד עֵ֫ינֶ֥יךָ אָכֵ֗ן שָׁ֭מַעְתָּ ק֥וֹל תַּחֲנוּנַ֗י בְּשַׁוְּעִ֥י אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before Thy eyes: nevertheless Thou didst hear the voice of my supplications when I cried to Thee.

And I said [in my heart] in my haste [(in the desert of Maon, after escaping the siege)]: I have been cut off from before Your eyes. But [even then] You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried out to You.


###### Psalms 31:24

אֶ֥הֱב֥וּ אֶֽת־יְהֹוָ֗ה כׇּֽל־חֲסִ֫ידָ֥יו אֱ֭מוּנִים נֹצֵ֣ר יְהֹוָ֑ה וּמְשַׁלֵּ֥ם עַל־יֶ֝֗תֶר עֹשֵׂ֥ה גַאֲוָֽה׃

O love the Lord, all his pious ones: for the Lord preserves the faithful, and plentifully repays him who acts haughtily.

Love the L rd, all His saintly ones! The L rd guards the faithful and requites the excess [(of haughtiness)] of the workers of pride.


###### Psalms 31:25

חִ֭זְקוּ וְיַאֲמֵ֣ץ לְבַבְכֶ֑ם כׇּל־הַ֝מְיַחֲלִ֗ים לַֽיהֹוָֽה׃{פ}

Be of good courage, and let your heart be strong, all you who hope in the Lord.
