###### Psalms 34:1

לְדָוִ֗ד בְּשַׁנּוֹת֣וֹ אֶת־טַ֭עְמוֹ לִפְנֵ֣י אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ וַ֝יְגָרְשֵׁ֗הוּ וַיֵּלַֽךְ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Of David, when he changed his demeanour before Avimelekh; who drove him away, and he departed.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
[A psalm] of David, when he feigned derangement [(to save his life, viz. I Samuel 21:14)] before Avimelech [Achish, king of Gath (all Philistine kings being called "Avimelech")], whereupon he drove him out [of his land], and he went [in peace].


###### Psalms 34:2

אֲבָרְכָ֣ה אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה בְּכׇל־עֵ֑ת תָּ֝מִ֗יד תְּֽהִלָּת֥וֹ בְּפִֽי׃

I will bless the Lord at all time: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

###### Psalms 34:3

בַּ֭יהֹוָה תִּתְהַלֵּ֣ל נַפְשִׁ֑י יִשְׁמְע֖וּ עֲנָוִ֣ים וְיִשְׂמָֽחוּ׃

My soul shall glory in the Lord: the humble shall hear of it, and be glad.

In the [(patronage)] of the L rd, my soul exults; let the humble hear [the wonders He has wrought for me], and they shall rejoice.

גַּדְּל֣וּ לַיהֹוָ֣ה אִתִּ֑י וּנְרוֹמְמָ֖ה שְׁמ֣וֹ יַחְדָּֽו׃

O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.

###### Psalms 34:5

דָּרַ֣שְׁתִּי אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה וְעָנָ֑נִי וּמִכׇּל־מְ֝גוּרוֹתַ֗י הִצִּילָֽנִי׃

I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

###### Psalms 34:6

הִבִּ֣יטוּ אֵלָ֣יו וְנָהָ֑רוּ וּ֝פְנֵיהֶ֗ם אַל־יֶחְפָּֽרוּ׃

They looked to him, and are radiant: and their faces shall not be ashamed.

They [(the afflicted)] looked to Him and they [(their faces)] were illumined, and their faces were not shamed.


###### Psalms 34:7

זֶ֤ה עָנִ֣י קָ֭רָא וַיהֹוָ֣ה שָׁמֵ֑עַ וּמִכׇּל־צָ֝רוֹתָ֗יו הוֹשִׁיעֽוֹ׃

This poor man cries, and the Lord hears, and saves him out of all his troubles.

When this poor one calls, the L rd listens, and He delivers him from all of his tribulations.

חֹנֶ֤ה מַלְאַךְ־יְהֹוָ֓ה סָ֘בִ֤יב לִירֵאָ֗יו וַֽיְחַלְּצֵֽם׃

The angel of the Lord encamps round about those who fear him, and he delivers them.

An angel of the L rd camps around those who fear Him, and he rescues them.


###### Psalms 34:9

טַעֲמ֣וּ וּ֭רְאוּ כִּֽי־ט֣וֹב יְהֹוָ֑ה אַֽשְׁרֵ֥י הַ֝גֶּ֗בֶר יֶחֱסֶה־בּֽוֹ׃

O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man who trusts in him.

יְר֣אוּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֣ה קְדֹשָׁ֑יו כִּי־אֵ֥ין מַ֝חְס֗וֹר לִירֵאָֽיו׃

O fear the Lord, you saints of his: for those who fear him have no lack.

###### Psalms 34:11

כְּ֭פִירִים רָשׁ֣וּ וְרָעֵ֑בוּ וְדֹרְשֵׁ֥י יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה לֹא־יַחְסְר֥וּ כׇל־טֽוֹב׃

The young lions lack, and suffer hunger: but they who seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

Young lions [i.e., great ones] are impoverished and hunger, but the seekers of the L rd lack no good.


###### Psalms 34:12

לְֽכוּ־בָ֭נִים שִׁמְעוּ־לִ֑י יִֽרְאַ֥ת יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה אֲלַמֶּדְכֶֽם׃

Come, children, hearken to me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

מִֽי־הָ֭אִישׁ הֶחָפֵ֣ץ חַיִּ֑ים אֹהֵ֥ב יָ֝מִ֗ים לִרְא֥וֹת טֽוֹב׃

Who is the man that desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good?

Who is the man who desires life [in the world to come], who loves days [in this world] for the seeing of good [in the next] —

נְצֹ֣ר לְשׁוֹנְךָ֣ מֵרָ֑ע וּ֝שְׂפָתֶ֗יךָ מִדַּבֵּ֥ר מִרְמָֽה׃

Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

ס֣וּר מֵ֭רָע וַעֲשֵׂה־ט֑וֹב בַּקֵּ֖שׁ שָׁל֣וֹם וְרׇדְפֵֽהוּ׃

Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

###### Psalms 34:16

עֵינֵ֣י יְ֭הֹוָה אֶל־צַדִּיקִ֑ים וְ֝אׇזְנָ֗יו אֶל־שַׁוְעָתָֽם׃

The eyes of the Lord are towards the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.

###### Psalms 34:17

The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

###### Psalms 34:19

קָר֣וֹב יְ֭הֹוָה לְנִשְׁבְּרֵי־לֵ֑ב וְֽאֶת־דַּכְּאֵי־ר֥וּחַ יוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃

The Lord is near to them who are of a broken heart; and he saves such as are of a contrite spirit.

רַ֭בּוֹת רָע֣וֹת צַדִּ֑יק וּ֝מִכֻּלָּ֗ם יַצִּילֶ֥נּוּ יְהֹוָֽה׃

Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

[Though] many ills [befall] the righteous one, the L rd will save him from all.

###### Psalms 34:22

תְּמוֹתֵ֣ת רָשָׁ֣ע רָעָ֑ה וְשֹׂנְאֵ֖י צַדִּ֣יק יֶאְשָֽׁמוּ׃

Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be condemned.

###### Psalms 34:23

פֹּדֶ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה נֶ֣פֶשׁ עֲבָדָ֑יו וְלֹ֥א יֶ֝אְשְׁמ֗וּ כׇּֽל־הַחֹסִ֥ים בּֽוֹ׃{פ}

The Lord redeems the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be condemned.
