###### Psalms 35:1

לְדָוִ֨ד**׀** רִיבָ֣ה יְ֭הֹוָה אֶת־יְרִיבַ֑י לְ֝חַ֗ם אֶת־לֹחֲמָֽי׃

Of David. Strive, O Lord, with those who contend against me: fight with those who oppose me.

הַחֲזֵ֣ק מָגֵ֣ן וְצִנָּ֑ה וְ֝ק֗וּמָה בְּעֶזְרָתִֽי׃

###### Psalms 35:3

וְהָ֘רֵ֤ק חֲנִ֣ית וּ֭סְגֹר לִקְרַ֣את רֹדְפָ֑י אֱמֹ֥ר לְ֝נַפְשִׁ֗י יְֽשֻׁעָתֵ֥ךְ אָֽנִי׃

Draw out also the spear, and battle axe against those who persecute me: say to my soul, I am thy salvation.

Wield [Your] spear, and bar [the way] to my pursuers. Say to my soul: "I am your salvation!"

יֵבֹ֣שׁוּ וְיִכָּלְמוּ֮ מְבַקְשֵׁ֢י נַ֫פְשִׁ֥י יִסֹּ֣גוּ אָח֣וֹר וְיַחְפְּר֑וּ חֹ֝שְׁבֵ֗י רָעָתִֽי׃

Let them be confounded and put to shame who seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion who devise my hurt.

Let those who seek my soul be shamed and abashed. Let those who devise evil against me be driven back and put to shame.

כִּֽי־חִנָּ֣ם טָֽמְנוּ־לִ֭י שַׁ֣חַת רִשְׁתָּ֑ם חִ֝נָּ֗ם חָפְר֥וּ לְנַפְשִֽׁי׃

For without cause have they hid for me their net; a pit without cause have they dug for my soul.

For without cause have they hid against me their pit [and] their snare. Without cause have they dug [a pit] for my soul.


###### Psalms 35:8

תְּבוֹאֵ֣הוּ שׁוֹאָה֮ לֹֽא־יֵ֫דָ֥ע וְרִשְׁתּ֣וֹ אֲשֶׁר־טָמַ֣ן תִּלְכְּד֑וֹ בְּ֝שׁוֹאָ֗ה יִפׇּל־בָּֽהּ׃

Let destruction come upon him unawares; and let his net that he has hid catch himself: let him fall to ruin.

Let impenetrable darkness come upon him and let him be ensnared in the trap that he has hidden. Let him fall in it in the darkness.


###### Psalms 35:9

וְ֭נַפְשִׁי תָּגִ֣יל בַּיהֹוָ֑ה תָּ֝שִׂ֗ישׂ בִּישׁוּעָתֽוֹ׃

And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.

כׇּ֥ל־עַצְמוֹתַ֨י**׀** תֹּאמַרְנָה֮ יְהֹוָ֗ה מִ֥י־כָ֫מ֥וֹךָ מַצִּ֣יל עָ֭נִי מֵחָזָ֣ק מִמֶּ֑נּוּ וְעָנִ֥י וְ֝אֶבְי֗וֹן מִגֹּֽזְלֽוֹ׃

All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like Thee, who delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, and the poor and the needy from him that robs him?

All of my bones will say: O L rd, who is like You? You rescue the afflicted one from him who is stronger than he, and the afflicted and poor one from the one who would rob him.


###### Psalms 35:11

יְ֭קוּמוּן עֵדֵ֣י חָמָ֑ס אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי יִשְׁאָלֽוּנִי׃

False witnesses rise up; they ask me things that I know not.

Thieving witnesses rise against me and demand of me [(to return to them)] what I know nothing of.

יְשַׁלְּמ֣וּנִי רָ֭עָה תַּ֥חַת טוֹבָ֗ה שְׁכ֣וֹל לְנַפְשִֽׁי׃

They repay me evil for good; a bereavement to my soul!

They repay me evil for good [and seek] death for my soul.


###### Psalms 35:13

וַאֲנִ֤י**׀** בַּחֲלוֹתָ֡ם לְב֬וּשִׁי שָׂ֗ק עִנֵּ֣יתִי בַצּ֣וֹם נַפְשִׁ֑י וּ֝תְפִלָּתִ֗י עַל־חֵיקִ֥י תָשֽׁוּב׃

But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I afflicted my soul with fasting; and as for my prayer may it return to my own bosom.

And I, when they were sick, I would put on sackcloth and afflict my soul with fasting — and would that my prayers [for them] would return unto my bosom [i.e., would be fulfilled in me]!


###### Psalms 35:14

כְּרֵעַ־כְּאָ֣ח לִ֭י הִתְהַלָּ֑כְתִּי כַּאֲבֶל־אֵ֝֗ם קֹדֵ֥ר שַׁחֽוֹתִי׃

I went about as for my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one who mourns for his mother.

I went about [in mourning] as [if they were] a friend, a brother of mine. As a mother mourns [her son], I went bent in darkness.


###### Psalms 35:15

וּבְצַלְעִי֮ שָׂמְח֢וּ וְֽנֶ֫אֱסָ֥פוּ נֶאֶסְפ֬וּ עָלַ֣י נֵ֭כִים וְלֹ֣א יָדַ֑עְתִּי קָרְע֥וּ וְלֹא־דָֽמּוּ׃

But when I stumble they rejoice, and gather themselves together. Wretches whom I have not known tear me in pieces without ceasing.

But in my limpness they rejoiced and gathered against me. [Even] cripples gathered against me. And I did not know [what I had done to them]. If they had torn [my flesh], it would not bleed [(for they had mortified me)].


###### Psalms 35:16

בְּ֭חַנְפֵי לַעֲגֵ֣י מָע֑וֹג חָרֹ֖ק עָלַ֣י שִׁנֵּֽימוֹ׃

Like profane men, scornful mockers, they grind their teeth against me.

For their flattery [of Saul] for carousals of food [and drink, i.e., so that he feed them], they gnashed their teeth at me.


###### Psalms 35:17

אֲדֹנָי֮ כַּמָּ֢ה תִ֫רְאֶ֥ה הָשִׁ֣יבָה נַ֭פְשִׁי מִשֹּׁאֵיהֶ֑ם מִ֝כְּפִירִ֗ים יְחִידָתִֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Lord, how long wilt Thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my only one from the lions.

O L rd, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their darkness; my spirit from [those who are stronger than] lions.


###### Psalms 35:18

א֭וֹדְךָ בְּקָהָ֣ל רָ֑ב בְּעַ֖ם עָצ֣וּם אֲהַלְלֶֽךָּ׃

I will give Thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise Thee among a numerous people.

[And then] I will thank You amidst a great throng; amidst a vast multitude will I praise You.


###### Psalms 35:19

אַֽל־יִשְׂמְחוּ־לִ֣י אֹיְבַ֣י שֶׁ֑קֶר שֹׂנְאַ֥י חִ֝נָּ֗ם יִקְרְצוּ־עָֽיִן׃

Let not those who are wrongfully my enemies rejoice over me; or those who hate me without cause wink their eye.

Let my foes of falsehood [i.e., who testify falsely against me] not rejoice over me; my enemies without cause [not] wink their eyes at me [in mockery].


###### Psalms 35:20

כִּ֤י לֹ֥א שָׁל֗וֹם יְדַ֫בֵּ֥רוּ וְעַ֥ל רִגְעֵי־אֶ֑רֶץ דִּבְרֵ֥י מִ֝רְמ֗וֹת יַחֲשֹׁבֽוּן׃

For they seek not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against those who are quiet in the land.

For they cannot speak peace, and they plot subtleties against the crushed of the earth.


###### Psalms 35:21

וַיַּרְחִ֥יבוּ עָלַ֗י פִּ֫יהֶ֥ם אָ֭מְרוּ הֶאָ֣ח׀הֶאָ֑ח רָאֲתָ֥ה עֵינֵֽנוּ׃

For they open their mouths wide against me, and say, Aha, aha, our eye has seen it.

And they have widened their mouths against me [in exultation], saying "He'ach!" "He'ach!" Our eyes have seen [(what we lusted for)].


###### Psalms 35:22

רָאִ֣יתָה יְ֭הֹוָה אַֽל־תֶּחֱרַ֑שׁ אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י אַל־תִּרְחַ֥ק מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

Thou hast seen, O Lord: keep no silence: O Lord, be not far from me.

###### Psalms 35:23

הָעִ֣ירָה וְ֭הָקִיצָה לְמִשְׁפָּטִ֑י אֱלֹהַ֖י וַאדֹנָ֣י לְרִיבִֽי׃

Rouse Thyself, and awake to my judgment; to my cause, my God and my Lord.

Judge me, O Lord my God, according to Thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.

Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so we have our desire: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

יֵ֘בֹ֤שׁוּ וְיַחְפְּר֨וּ**׀** יַחְדָּו֮ שְׂמֵחֵ֢י רָעָ֫תִ֥י יִֽלְבְּשׁוּ־בֹ֥שֶׁת וּכְלִמָּ֑ה הַֽמַּגְדִּילִ֥ים עָלָֽי׃

Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together, those who rejoice at my hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour, those who magnify themselves against me.

Let them be shamed and abashed together, those who rejoice in my ill. Let those who vaunt themselves over me be clothed in shame and humiliation.


###### Psalms 35:27

יָרֹ֣נּוּ וְיִשְׂמְחוּ֮ חֲפֵצֵ֢י צִ֫דְקִ֥י וְיֹאמְר֣וּ תָ֭מִיד יִגְדַּ֣ל יְהֹוָ֑ה הֶ֝חָפֵ֗ץ שְׁל֣וֹם עַבְדּֽוֹ׃

Let them shout for joy, and be glad, those who favour my righteous cause: and let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the welfare of his servant.

Let those who desire that G d grant me His righteousness sing and rejoice; and let them always say: "May the L rd be exalted, who desires the peace of His servant."


###### Psalms 35:28

וּ֭לְשׁוֹנִי תֶּהְגֶּ֣ה צִדְקֶ֑ךָ כׇּל־הַ֝יּ֗וֹם תְּהִלָּתֶֽךָ׃{פ}

And my tongue shall speak of Thy righteousness; of Thy praise all the day long.
