###### Psalms 44:1

###### Psalms 44:2

אֱלֹהִ֤ים**׀** בְּאׇזְנֵ֬ינוּ שָׁמַ֗עְנוּ אֲבוֹתֵ֥ינוּ סִפְּרוּ־לָ֑נוּ פֹּ֥עַל פָּעַ֥לְתָּ בִ֝ימֵיהֶ֗ם בִּ֣ימֵי קֶֽדֶם׃

We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us, what work Thou didst in their days, in the times of old:

O G d, we heard it [(the following prophecy)] with our ears, our fathers told us thereof, the deed that You wrought in their days, the days of yore.

אַתָּ֤ה**׀** יָדְךָ֡ גּוֹיִ֣ם ה֭וֹרַשְׁתָּ וַתִּטָּעֵ֑ם תָּרַ֥ע לְ֝אֻמִּ֗ים וַֽתְּשַׁלְּחֵֽם׃

how Thou didst drive out nations with Thy hand, and didst plant them; how Thou didst batter the peoples, and cast them out.

You drove out the nations with [the strength of] Your hand and planted them [the children of Israel, in their stead]. You broke the [seven] nations and sent them forth.

כִּ֤י לֹ֪א בְחַרְבָּ֡ם יָ֥רְשׁוּ אָ֗רֶץ וּזְרוֹעָם֮ לֹא־הוֹשִׁ֢יעָ֫ה לָּ֥מוֹ כִּֽי־יְמִינְךָ֣ וּ֭זְרוֹעֲךָ וְא֥וֹר פָּנֶ֗יךָ כִּ֣י רְצִיתָֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them: but Thy right hand, and Thy arm, and the light of Thy countenance, because Thou didst favourably accept them.

For it was not with their sword that they inherited the land, and their arms did not help them. But it was Your right hand, and Your arm, and the light of Your countenance — because You desired them.

אַתָּה־ה֣וּא מַלְכִּ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים צַ֝וֵּ֗ה יְשׁוּע֥וֹת יַעֲקֹֽב׃

Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Ya῾aqov.

You are my king, O G d; [now, too,] command the salvation of Jacob.


###### Psalms 44:6

בְּ֭ךָ צָרֵ֣ינוּ נְנַגֵּ֑חַ בְּ֝שִׁמְךָ֗ נָב֥וּס קָמֵֽינוּ׃

Through Thee will we push down our enemies: through Thy name will we tread those under who rise up against us.

With You [(Your aid)] we will smite our foes. With Your name we will trample those who rise against us.

כִּ֤י לֹ֣א בְקַשְׁתִּ֣י אֶבְטָ֑ח וְ֝חַרְבִּ֗י לֹ֣א תוֹשִׁיעֵֽנִי׃

For I trust not in my bow, nor shall my sword save me.

כִּ֣י ה֭וֹשַׁעְתָּנוּ מִצָּרֵ֑ינוּ וּמְשַׂנְאֵ֥ינוּ הֱבִישֽׁוֹתָ׃

But Thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put to shame those who hated us.

In God we have gloried all the day long, and we praise Thy name for ever. (Sela.)

אַף־זָ֭נַחְתָּ וַתַּכְלִימֵ֑נוּ וְלֹא־תֵ֝צֵ֗א בְּצִבְאוֹתֵֽינוּ׃

Yet, Thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and Thou goest not forth with our armies.

Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they who hate us take plunder for themselves.

Thou sellest Thy people for no great gain, and hast not put high their prices.

Thou dost make us a taunt to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to those round about us.

תְּשִׂימֵ֣נוּ מָ֭שָׁל בַּגּוֹיִ֑ם מְנֽוֹד־רֹ֝֗אשׁ בַּלְאֻמִּֽים׃

Thou makest us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.

You have made us a parable among the nations, an object of head-nodding [in mockery] among the peoples.

כׇּל־הַ֭יּוֹם כְּלִמָּתִ֣י נֶגְדִּ֑י וּבֹ֖שֶׁת פָּנַ֣י כִּסָּֽתְנִי׃

My confusion is before me all the day, and the shame of my face has covered me,

For the voice of him that taunts and blasphemes; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

כׇּל־זֹ֣את בָּ֭אַתְנוּ וְלֹ֣א שְׁכַחֲנ֑וּךָ וְלֹֽא־שִׁ֝קַּ֗רְנוּ בִּבְרִיתֶֽךָ׃

All this is come upon us; yet we have not forgotten Thee, nor have we been false to Thy covenant.

Our heart is not turned back, nor have our steps declined from Thy way;

though Thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death.

If we had forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

would not God search this out? for he knows the secrets of the heart.

But for Thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are reckoned as sheep for the slaughter.

Awake, why sleepest Thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

Why dost Thou hide Thy face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?
