###### Psalms 48:2

גָּ֘ד֤וֹל יְהֹוָ֣ה וּמְהֻלָּ֣ל מְאֹ֑ד בְּעִ֥יר אֱ֝לֹהֵ֗ינוּ הַר־קׇדְשֽׁוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

The L rd is great [i.e., His greatness will be proclaimed] and greatly praised in the city of our G d [(when it will be rebuilt)], the mountain of His sanctuary.


###### Psalms 48:3

יְפֵ֥ה נוֹף֮ מְשׂ֢וֹשׂ כׇּל־הָ֫אָ֥רֶץ הַר־צִ֭יּוֹן יַרְכְּתֵ֣י צָפ֑וֹן קִ֝רְיַ֗ת מֶ֣לֶךְ רָֽב׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth: mount Żiyyon, the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

**The Rashi Ketuvim by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
Beauteous of prospect, the joy of all the earth — Mount Zion [("beauteous of prospect")], the northern side [of the altar ("the joy of all the earth") — the sin-offerings and guilt-offerings (slaughtered on that side) resulting in the joy of atonement and in good for all the earth] — the city of the great King.


###### Psalms 48:4

אֱלֹהִ֥ים בְּאַרְמְנוֹתֶ֗יהָ נוֹדַ֥ע לְמִשְׂגָּֽב׃

God is known in her palaces for a fortress.

[When the L rd reposes there, they will say:] G d is in its citadels; [He is] renowned as [its] Stronghold.


###### Psalms 48:5

כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֣ה הַ֭מְּלָכִים נ֥וֹעֲד֑וּ עָבְר֥וּ יַחְדָּֽו׃

For, lo, the kings were assembled, they came on together.

For, behold, the kings have assembled [(for the war of Gog and Magog)] and passed over together [to make war against Jerusalem].

הֵ֣מָּה רָ֭אוּ כֵּ֣ן תָּמָ֑הוּ נִבְהֲל֥וּ נֶחְפָּֽזוּ׃

As soon as they saw, they were astounded; they were affrighted; they rushed away.

They saw [the L rd going forth in battle against them] — and they were astounded. They were confounded and bewildered.


###### Psalms 48:7

רְ֭עָדָה אֲחָזָ֣תַם שָׁ֑ם חִ֝֗יל כַּיּוֹלֵדָֽה׃

Fear took hold of them there, and pain, like a woman in travail.

בְּר֥וּחַ קָדִ֑ים תְּ֝שַׁבֵּ֗ר אֳנִיּ֥וֹת תַּרְשִֽׁישׁ׃

Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

With the east wind [(the wind of "retribution")], you break the ships of Tarshish [(belonging to Edom)].


###### Psalms 48:9

כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר שָׁמַ֨עְנוּ**׀** כֵּ֤ן רָאִ֗ינוּ בְּעִיר־יְהֹוָ֣ה צְ֭בָאוֹת בְּעִ֣יר אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ אֱלֹ֘הִ֤ים יְכוֹנְנֶ֖הָ עַד־עוֹלָ֣ם סֶֽלָה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: may God establish it for ever. (Sela.)

Just as we heard [(these consolations from our prophets)], thus did we see, in the city of the L rd of hosts, in the city of our G d. The L rd shall establish it forever, Selah.


###### Psalms 48:10

דִּמִּ֣ינוּ אֱלֹהִ֣ים חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ בְּ֝קֶ֗רֶב הֵיכָלֶֽךָ׃

We have thought of Thy steadfast love, O God, in the midst of Thy temple.

[(The prophet resumes His prayer to the L rd:)] We hoped, O G d, for Your kindness [to see Your salvation] in the midst of Your sanctuary.


###### Psalms 48:11

כְּשִׁמְךָ֤ אֱלֹהִ֗ים כֵּ֣ן תְּ֭הִלָּתְךָ עַל־קַצְוֵי־אֶ֑רֶץ צֶ֝֗דֶק מָלְאָ֥ה יְמִינֶֽךָ׃

According to Thy name, O God, so is Thy praise to the ends of the earth: Thy right hand is full of righteousness.

As Your name [is great] O G d, so is Your praise [great] over the ends of the earth. Righteousness fills Your right hand.


###### Psalms 48:12

יִשְׂמַ֤ח**׀** הַר־צִיּ֗וֹן תָּ֭גֵלְנָה בְּנ֣וֹת יְהוּדָ֑ה לְ֝מַ֗עַן מִשְׁפָּטֶֽיךָ׃

Let mount Żiyyon rejoice, let the daughters of Yehuda be glad, because of Thy judgments.

Mount Zion will rejoice, the [(other)] daughters [i.e., cities] of Judah will regale for the sake of Your judgments [(of retribution against the nations)].


###### Psalms 48:13

סֹ֣בּוּ צִ֭יּוֹן וְהַקִּיפ֑וּהָ סִ֝פְר֗וּ מִגְדָּלֶֽיהָ׃

Walk about Żiyyon, and go round about her: count her towers.

Go around Zion, [You who build her], and encompass it. Count its towers [i.e., determine how many towers she requires].


###### Psalms 48:14

שִׁ֤יתוּ לִבְּכֶ֨ם**׀** לְֽחֵילָ֗הֿ פַּסְּג֥וּ אַרְמְנוֹתֶ֑יהָ לְמַ֥עַן תְּ֝סַפְּר֗וּ לְד֣וֹר אַחֲרֽוֹן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Mark well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that you may tell it to the generation following.

Set your hearts to [the restoration of] her ramparts; raise up her citadels, so that you can tell [of her grandeur and beauty] to the next generation.


###### Psalms 48:15

כִּ֤י זֶ֨ה**׀** אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֱ֭לֹהֵינוּ עוֹלָ֣ם וָעֶ֑ד ה֖וּא יְנַהֲגֵ֣נוּ עַל־מֽוּת׃{פ}

For such is God, our God, for ever and ever: he will be our guide to the death.

For this G d [(who has wrought all this for us)] is our G d. He will lead us as [one leads] a young child.
