**בימי זכריה המבין בראת האלהים.** פי': שהיה נביא:

**וישב בית החפשית.** חסר בי"ת השמוש; וכן "הנמצא בית יי'" (מ"ב יב,יא). ופי' "החפשית" מפרש בתלמוד ירושלמי שעשה לו בית בבית הקברות, כמה דאת אמר "במתים חפשי" (תה' פח,ו):

**[Uzziah] lived *bet ha-ḥofshit* (=[in] the house of freedom).** This elides a prepositional *bet*, akin to *ha-nimṣa bet Adonay* (=found *in* the House of the Lord; 2 Kgs 12:11). *Ha-ḥofshit*, as it is explained in the Talmud Yerushalmi, implies that he built himself a house in the cemetery, consistent with the statement, “When among the dead, *ḥ ofshi* (=one is free)” (Ps 88:6).
