**לבני.** כבר פירשתי בתחילת ספר השני טעם לבני קרח וזה המזמור על שבח ציון חברו דוד ונתנו לבני קרח לשורר, או חבר אותו על עצמו: ופירוש **יסודתו.** יסודת השיר בהררי קדש שהם ירושלים: ואמר**הררי.** לשון רבים כי הר ציון אחד והר המוריה שהוא הר הבית אחד או אמר כן בעבור ההרים הסמוכים לירושלים: והזכיר

**אהב.** אמר שערי לפי שהזקנים והחכמים יושבים בשערים ואמר אע"פ שכל משכנות יעקב אוהב אף על פי כן שערי ציון אוהב יותר לפי שהם החכמים והמתעסקים בעבודת האל יתברך:

The Lord loves the gates of Zion – It says ‘gates’ because the elders and the wise sit in the gates, as it says “…up to the gate, to the elders…” (Deuteronomy 25:7) and so too in the words of Boaz which describe the elders who were at the gate. (Ruth 4:11) Even though God loves all of the dwelling places of Yaakov, as it says “How goodly are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel!” (Numbers 24:6) nevertheless He loves the gates of Zion more because there the wise are occupied with the service of Gd.

**נכבדות מדובר.** ביושבים בך או פירושו מעלות נכבדות מדובר בך שאת מעולה על כל הארצות בהרבה דברים כי בישוב נחלק לשבעה חלקים ובחלק האמצעי היא ירושלי' והיא באמצע היישוב לפיכך אוירה טוב וממוסך מכל האוירים לבריאות הגוף ולחכמה כמו שאמר במזמור מ"ח יפה נוף משוש כל הארץ:

Glorious things – This means glorious attributes, and is speaking of those that inhabit you. Or its explanation is that glorious virtues will be attributed to you, that you are elevated over all lands in many things. The settled world is divided into seven portions, and Jerusalem is in the center portion, which is in the center of the civilized world. Thus it says “…dwelling on the navel of the earth.” (Ezekiel 38:12) Therefore its air is good, mingled from all airs, good for the health of the body and wisdom as it says “The fairest of branches, the joy of the entire earth…” (Psalms 48:3) and our Sages said “the air of the land of Israel makes one wise.” (Baba Batra 158b)

**רהב.** הוא מצרים וכן אמר כשאזכיר ליודעי המדינות הגדולות בגוים לא אראה בהם כמו ציון: ואמר **ליודעי.** כמו ליודעי מעלת ציון ויהיה ליודעי כמו ליודעים יהיה הכינוי כנגד ציון או יהיה הכינוי כנגד המשורר ופירושו ליודעים ציון כמוני:

**זה יולד שם.** בכל אלו המדינות הגדולות אם יהיה באחת מהם חכם:

**ולציון.** אבל לציון יאמר איש ואיש יולד בה מכמה חכמים יוכל אדם לומר שיולדו בה ותמיד בכל הזמנים ימצאו בה החכמים רבים וגדולים בעלי השם:

**והוא יכוננה עליון.** כמו והוא עליון יכוננה כלומר האל שהוא עליון על הכל והוא יצר כל העולם יצר וכנן המקום הזה לשבח על כל המקומות, או פירושו דרך תפילה העיר הזאת עליון יכוננה ויעמידה שנים רבות:

**ה' יספור.** ענין כתיבה רוצה לומר כשכתב האל יתברך העמים שיהיו בהם מהחכמים שיאמרו עליהם זה יולד שם כתב זה המקום לשבח שיהיו שם חכמים רבים והכתיבה היא גזירתו ובא הפסוק הזה על דרך בהנחל עליון גוים בהפרידו בני אדם יצב גבולות עמים למספר בני ישראל:
