**וּשְׁלֹשִׁים עֲיָרִים לָהֶם.** וּשְׁלֹשִׁים עָרִים בְּלֹא חוֹמָה לָהֶם, לְכָךְ נִקְרְאוּ עֲיָרִים, לְשׁוֹן עֲיָירוֹת:

**They owned thirty towns.** They owned thirty unwalled municipalities. This is why they are described as **עַיָרִים**, "towns", meaning the same as **עַיָירָוֹת**.²
