**Because he was cut down from his greatness** in the days of Ahasuerus. As behold, Belshazzar had made three govern over his kingdom (one of whom was Daniel). And likewise Darius the Mede, as it is stated (Daniel 6:3), "And over them were three ministers, of which Daniel was one." And likewise Cyrus, as it is stated (Daniel 6:29), "And Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and during the reign of Cyrus the Persian." But when Ahasuerus governed, he cut him down from his greatness.

**For a sad report:** As Esther was prevented from coming to the king. Hence Chatach did not respond to his mission. But Esther sent her words through others.

**This one came as a rich man:** Mordekhai come to him with the claim of wealth; Haman came with the claim of poverty, since Haman had sold himself to Mordekhai much earlier for a loaf of bread.
