**Translation v.1:**
**What circumcision overrides Shabbat and Festivals. And it has 14 sections:**
Circumcision, whether at the proper time or not, overrides the concern for a tzaraat (leprosy-like) affliction. Even if there is a bright spot on the skin of the foreskin, and cutting that spot would violate the prohibition of "You shall not make a cutting in your flesh," it is still cut together with the foreskin. However, if after the circumcision, flesh grows over the circumcision wound to the point that it no longer appears circumcised, and that new flesh needs to be cut away - if there is a bright spot on that new flesh, it is forbidden to cut it, since the child no longer needs to undergo another circumcision except by rabbinic decree.

###### Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:2
[Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:2](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Shulchan%20Arukh%2C%20Yoreh%20De%27ah/r/266:2)

**Translation v.1:**
Circumcision overrides the festival and Shabbat when done at the proper time, but not when done at an improper time. Even when done at the proper time, only the circumcision itself, the uncovering, and the tearing away of the remaining membrane are permitted to override Shabbat. Even if the mohel only partially removes the remaining membrane that covers most of the crown in one area, which renders it invalid, he may return to complete it. However, any remaining membrane that does not invalidate the circumcision - if he did not initially remove it, he may not go back, but they may apply an adhesive bandage. Note: It is permitted to move the circumcision implements after the circumcision to store them in the courtyard shared by multiple dwellings, even though they are no longer needed that Shabbat, since they were not set aside as muktzeh before Shabbat, having been needed on that Shabbat. (This permissibility of moving them is written in the Toldot Adam VeChava, Pathway 1, and the reasoning is that of the author of the Shulchan Arukh, contrary to Maharil). However, the implements themselves do not override Shabbat since they could have been prepared beforehand. Therefore, one may not make a knife for circumcising, nor bring it from place to place, nor even take it out of the house [and bring it] through rooftops, courtyards and alleyways that were not included in the eiruv. However, if the knife was forgotten on a roof or courtyard, it is permitted to bring it from one to the other, even if the courtyards were combined with the houses in an eiruv.

**Translation v.1:**
One may not grind spices, nor heat water, nor make an adhesive bandage, nor mix wine and oil. If no cumin was ground before Shabbat, he may chew it with his teeth. If no wine and oil were mixed before Shabbat, he may place them separately for himself. One may not make a garment for the child, but may wrap it in a rag. If nothing was prepared before Shabbat, he may wrap it in a piece of cloth from his garment and bring it, even from another courtyard that was not included in the eiruv.

**Translation v.1:**
If a child was circumcised on Shabbat and then the bandage scattered, it may be re-bandaged on Shabbat due to the danger to the child. (Regarding bathing the child before or after circumcision, see Tur Orach Chaim 331).

###### Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:5
[Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:5](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Shulchan%20Arukh%2C%20Yoreh%20De%27ah/r/266:5)

**Translation v.1:**
If a knife was forgotten and not brought before Shabbat, one may instruct a non-Jew to bring a knife on Shabbat, provided he does not carry it through a public domain. In general, anything whose performance on Shabbat is prohibited due to shevut (rabbinic prohibitions), we may instruct a non-Jew to do in order to perform a mitzvah at its proper time. But anything whose performance on Shabbat is prohibited for us due to a biblical prohibition of labor, we may not instruct a non-Jew to do on Shabbat.

**Translation v.1:**
All the preparations that do not override Shabbat also do not override the festival, except for grinding cumin on the festival since it is fit for a pot, and also mixing wine and oil.

###### Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:7
[Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:7](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Shulchan%20Arukh%2C%20Yoreh%20De%27ah/r/266:7)

**Translation v.1:**
A person who has never performed a circumcision should not do so on Shabbat, lest he make a mistake and end up desecrating Shabbat. However, if he has already performed a circumcision once before, he is permitted to do so on Shabbat, even if it is his own son (Terumat HaDeshen 245, disagreeing with Rabbi Eliezer cited in the Tur).

###### Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:8
[Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:8](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Shulchan%20Arukh%2C%20Yoreh%20De%27ah/r/266:8)

**Translation v.1:**
8. Someone who was born at twilight where it is doubtful [if it is still] day and doubtful [if it is already] night, we count from the night and do the Bris on the 9th, which is Safek the eighth day. And if he is born Erev Shabbos at twilight it does not supersede [the laws of] Shabbos because we do not supersede Shabbos because of a doubt. And likewise we do not supersede Yom Tov because of a doubt, and even the second day of Yom Tov in Galus [outside Israel]. (Tur, this is in the name of the Teshuvot HaRosh). Even if his only his head emerged at twilight and the rest of him emerged on Shabbos we do not perform the Bris on Shabbos.

###### Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:9
[Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:9](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Shulchan%20Arukh%2C%20Yoreh%20De%27ah/r/266:9)

**Translation v.1:**
Seif 9 – About the measuring of twilight, the Tannaim and the Amoraim disagree at the end of the chapter “Bameh Madlikin” [the second chapter of Shabbat]. The Ba’al HaIttur wrote that there is doubt for us regarding whom the halakhah is like; therefore, if the head of the child was coming out from sunset, there is doubt until twilight according to R. Yose is completed, and the child is circumcised on the 10th day. If the child was born Saturday night from sunset on, we follow the stringency of Rabba.

###### Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:10
[Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:10](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Shulchan%20Arukh%2C%20Yoreh%20De%27ah/r/266:10)

**Translation v.1:**
A child born already circumcised, someone with two foreskins, an androgynous person, an unusual birth, and a child born to a mother who did not immerse before giving birth - even though they are circumcised on the eighth day, they do not override Shabbat. (A tumtum - an intersex individual - who is found to be male after being examined, is circumcised on Shabbat according to Maimonides and Rosh, though some prohibit it) (Beit Yosef in the name of the Rif and Rabbi Yerocham).

###### Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:11
[Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:11](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Shulchan%20Arukh%2C%20Yoreh%20De%27ah/r/266:11)

**Translation v.1:**
One born in the seventh month is circumcised on Shabbat even if his hair and nails are not fully developed. But one born in the eighth month is not circumcised on Shabbat unless his hair and nails are fully developed. The same applies to a doubt whether he is seven or eight months - he is not circumcised on Shabbat unless his hair and nails are fully developed. Note: Some say we do circumcise him since he may be seven months old, but we do not violate Shabbat for anything else related to his care (Semag, and this seems to be the view of the Rif, Rosh and Tur). And this seems to me to be the proper ruling.

**Translation v.1:**
A Jew who converted and had a son from a Jewish woman - the son is circumcised on Shabbat.

**Translation v.1:**
A Jew who had a son from a non-Jewish woman - the son is not circumcised on Shabbat.

[Shulchan Arukh, Yoreh De'ah 266:14](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Shulchan%20Arukh%2C%20Yoreh%20De%27ah/r/266:14)

**Translation v.1:**
One must be careful that two mohels do not perform one circumcision on Shabbat, where one does the cutting and the other does the uncovering. Rather, the one who circumcises should also do the uncovering himself. Note: I did not find a source for his words, and on the contrary it seems permissible to me, since circumcision overrides Shabbat like the Temple service where multiple kohanim would perform labor and violate Shabbat. Since Shabbat can be overridden, it is considered like a weekday for this purpose. I also found this explicitly permitted in an ancient manuscript of the Sefer HaTerumah written on parchment at the end of the laws of Shabbat. However, I found in a anthology that there is an opinion to prohibit it, and therefore it is good to be stringent initially, although according to the law it seems to me as I have written. (Contrary to the Beit Yosef).
