שָׁמַעְתִּי בִּשְׁמוֹ, שֶׁדִּבֵּר עִם אִישׁ אֶחָד שֶׁהָיָה לוֹ בִּלְבּוּלֵי אֱמוּנָה. וְחִזֵּק אוֹתוֹ רַבֵּנוּ ז"ל.

I heard that the Rebbe once encouraged a man who was greatly confused about his beliefs.

וְאָמַר לוֹ שֶׁאִיתָא: שֶׁכָּל הִתְהַוּוּת מַעֲשֵׂה בְּרֵאשִׁית הָיָה רַק בִּשְׁבִיל מַה שֶּׁצָּפָה הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ שֶׁיִּהְיוּ אֲנָשִׁים שֶׁיִּהְיֶה לָהֶם יִסּוּרִים בְּעִנְיַן הָאֱמוּנָה הַקְּדוֹשָׁה מֵחֲמַת הַבִּלְבּוּלִים וְהַכְּפִירוֹת הָעוֹלִים עַל מַחֲשַׁבְתָּם רַחֲמָנָא לִצְלָן, וְהֵם יִתְגַּבְּרוּ כְּנֶגֶד אֵלּוּ הַמַּחֲשָׁבוֹת וְיִתְחַזְּקוּ בֶּאֱמוּנָה. וְרַק בִּשְׁבִיל זֶה בָּרָא הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ אֶת כָּל מַעֲשֵׂה בְּרֵאשִׁית.

The Rebbe told him, “It is written that all creation came into being only because of people like you. God saw that there would be people who would cling to our holy faith, despite suffering greatly because of the confusion and doubts that constantly plague them. He perceived that they would overcome these doubts and strengthen themselves in their beliefs. It was because of this that God brought forth all creation.”

וְעַל יְדֵי דִּבּוּרִים אֵלּוּ נִתְחַזֵּק זֶה הָאִישׁ מְאֹד תָּמִיד בְּכָל עֵת שֶׁבָּאוּ עָלָיו בִּלְבּוּלִים הַנַּ"ל.

This man was then greatly strengthened and unperturbed whenever he had these confusing thoughts.

וְכֵן מְבֹאָר בְּדִבְרֵי רַבֵּנוּ ז"ל כַּמָּה פְּעָמִים: שֶׁעִקַּר הַבְּרִיאָה הָיָה בִּזְכוּת הָאֱמוּנָה, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב (תְּהִלִּים לג): "וְכָל מַעֲשֵׂהוּ בֶּאֱמוּנָה".

The Rebbe said many times that the creation was mainly for the sake of faith.³²⁸ #519; *Alim LeTerufah* #37; below, note 478. Therefore, it is written, “All His works are through faith” (Psalms 33:4).
