הִזְהִיר מְאֹד כַּמָּה פְּעָמִים עַל עִנְיַן הַשִּׂיחָה בֵּינוֹ לְבֵין קוֹנוֹ, שֶׁכָּל אָדָם יְדַבֵּר וְיָשִׂיחַ בֵּינוֹ לְבֵין קוֹנוֹ, וִיַישֵּׁב עַצְמוֹ הֵיטֵב – מַה הוּא עוֹשֶׂה בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה.

The Rebbe often spoke to us about conversing with God. Speak to God so as to focus on your purpose in life.

וִירַחֵם עַל עַצְמוֹ וְיִפְרֹשׂ כַּפָּיו בְּתַחֲנוּנִים וּפִיּוּסִים לְבַקֵּשׁ וּלְהִתְחַנֵּן מִלְּפָנָיו יִתְבָּרַךְ שֶׁיְּזַכֵּהוּ בְּרַחֲמָיו הַמְּרֻבִּים לְהִתְקָרֵב לַעֲבוֹדָתוֹ יִתְבָּרַךְ.

וְיִשְׁתַּדֵּל לְהַמְצִיא לוֹ טְעָנוֹת וּבַקָּשׁוֹת עַל זֶה. וְעִנְיַן שִׂיחָה זוֹ יִהְיֶה בִּלְשׁוֹן שֶׁמְּדַבְּרִים בּוֹ [אַשְׁכְּנַז, שפת אם] (וּכְבָר מְבֹאָר זֹאת בַּסְּפָרִים הַנִּדְפָּסִים).

Use whatever language you speak best and argue with God, petitioning Him in every way. All these thoughts are brought in the Rebbe’s published works,¹⁰¹” #10; “*His Wisdom*” #7, #117, #229, #234; *Tzaddik* #436-443; *Likutey Moharan* I, 108, 156, 259; ibid., II, 25, 93, 95-101. The entire book, *Hishtafkhut HaNefesh* (published in English as *Outpouring of the Soul* by Breslov Research Institute), deals with this topic. but beyond this, he would frequently discuss this most important concept.

אֲבָל יוֹתֵר מִזֶּה, הִרְבָּה לְדַבֵּר עִמָּנוּ הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד בְּעִנְיָן זֶה, כִּי מִי שֶׁיַּרְגִּיל עַצְמוֹ לִנְהֹג הַנְהָגָה זוֹ בְּכָל יוֹם, עַל־כָּל־פָּנִים שָׁעָה אַחַת, בְּוַדַּאי יִזְכֶּה לְהִתְקָרֵב אֵלָיו יִתְבָּרַךְ בֶּאֱמֶת.

If you set aside a time each day – at least an hour – to converse with God, you will surely be worthy of drawing close to Him.

וְאַף אִם לִפְעָמִים הוּא רוֹאֶה שֶׁמְּקַיֵּם הַנְהָגָה זוֹ יָמִים וְשָׁנִים וְאַף־עַל־פִּי־כֵן עֲדַיִן לֹא זָכָה לְהִתְקָרְבוּת כָּרָאוּי, אַף־עַל־פִּי־כֵן יְחַזֵּק עַצְמוֹ יוֹתֵר וְיוֹתֵר, כִּי סוֹף כָּל סוֹף יוֹעִיל לוֹ בְּוַדַּאי.

You may do this for days and years, apparently without effect, but in the end, it will help you reach your goal (see “*His Praises*” #12; “*His Wisdom*” #234).

וְאָמַר: שֶׁדָּוִד הַמֶּלֶךְ ע"ה, יִסֵּד מִזֶּה סֵפֶר תְּהִלִּים.

The Rebbe said that this is how King David conceived the Book of Psalms (*Likutey Moharan* I, 156).

וְאָמַר, שֶׁעִקַּר הִתְבּוֹדְדוּת שֶׁל דָּוִד הַמֶּלֶךְ הָיָה עַל מִטָּתוֹ, בְּעֵת שֶׁשָּׁכַב עַל מִטָּתוֹ וְכִסָּה עַצְמוֹ בְּסָדִין, אָז הָיָה מְדַבֵּר וּמֵשִׂיחַ כָּל לִבּוֹ לִפְנֵי הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ. כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב (תְּהִלִּים ו־ז): "אַשְׂחֶה בְּכָל לַיְלָה מִטָּתִי בְּדִמְעָתִי" וְכוּ'.

He also said that the main time King David secluded himself with God was at night, under his covers in bed. Hidden from the sight of all others, he would pour his heart out before God. This is the meaning of the verse, “I speak every night on my bed in tears” (Psalms 6:7).¹⁰², p. 31, #36). See also “*His Wisdom*” #275; *She'arit Yisrael* #13.

וְעַיֵּן בְּסֵפֶר "לִקּוּטֵי תִּנְיָנָא" בְּדַף ל"ב (קל) וְשִׂים לִבְּךָ לְכָל מַה שֶּׁנֶּאֱמַר שָׁם בְּעִנְיָן זֶה, וְתַרְגִּיל עַצְמְךָ לְקַיֵּם הַדְּבָרִים הַנֶּאֱמָרִים שָׁם. וְהַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ יַעֲזֹר בְּכָל פַּעַם שֶׁתִּזְכֶּה לִפְתֹּחַ פִּיךָ שֶׁתּוּכַל לִפְרֹשׂ שִׂחָתְךָ לְפָנָיו בֶּאֱמֶת:

Look carefully and read what is written in *Likutey Moharan* II, 95-100. Follow what is written there and you will be worthy of truly expressing your thoughts to God.
