**אלא הא אוקמוה וכו׳:** אלא כבר העמידוהו וכבר למדנו, שיעקב פדה ודאי את אברהם. כי בשעה ההיא שאברהם נפל בכבשן האש של הכשדים, דנו דינו לפני הקב״ה, בזכות מה ינצל זה, זכות אבות אין לו. אמר הקב״ה לבית דין של מעלה, ינצל בשביל בניו. שהרי למדנו, בן מזכה את אביו. אמרו, הרי ישמעאל יצא ממנו. אמר הקב״ה, הרי יצחק יצא ממנו, שיושיט צוארו לשחיטה על המזבח. אמרו, הרי עשו יצא מיצחק. אמר הקב״ה, הרי יעקב יצא ממנו, שהוא כסא שלם, וכל בניו שלמים לפני. אמרו, הרי ודאי בזכות זה ינצל אברהם. ז״ש, אשר פדה את אברהם.

But they have already established it, etc.: But they have already established it and we have already learned that Jacob certainly redeemed Abraham. For at that hour in which Abraham fell into the fiery furnace of the Chaldeans, they judged him before the Holy One, Blessed Be He, saying: By what merit will this man be saved? He has no merit of fathers. The Holy One, Blessed Be He, said to the heavenly tribunal: He will be saved by the merit of his sons. For we have already learned that a son justifies his father. They said: But Ishmael came out of him. The Holy One, Blessed Be He, said: But Isaac came out of him, who offered his neck to be sacrificed on the altar. They said: But Esau came out of Isaac. The Holy One, Blessed Be He, said: But Jacob came out of him, who is a complete throne, and all his sons are complete before Me. They said: Surely by the merit of this one will Abraham be saved. This is what the Scripture says: "Who redeemed Abraham."
