**וע״ד עמי זכר נא וכו׳:** וע״כ אמר הקב״ה, עמי זכר נא, בבקשה מכם היו זוכרים זמן ההוא שנתחברו בלק ובלעם לכלותכם, ולא יכלו, כי אני אחזתי בכם כאב האוחז בבנו, ואינו עוזב אותו בידי אחר. **מן השטים ועד הגלגל,** מהו היחס מזה אל זה. ומשיב, אלא אמר הקב״ה לישראל, בבקשה מכם היו זוכרים, כל זמן שהייתם אחוזים בי, לא יכול אותו רשע בכשפיו וקסמיו לשלוט עליכם. כיון שעזבתם ידיכם מלאחוז בי, והייתם בשטים, מה כתוב, ויאכלו העם וישתחוו לאלהיהם. ובגלגל, כש״א בגלגל שורים זבחו. ואז שלטו בכם שונאיכם. וכל זה למה, **למען דעת צדקות ה׳,** דהיינו כל אלו צדקות שעשיתי לכם בזמן שהייתם אחוזים בי ולא עזבתי שום דבר בעולם שישלוט עליכם, והרוגז שלמעלה ושלמטה, ומינים הרעים לא יכלו לקרב אליכם.

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
And therefore, my people remember, etc.: And therefore, said the Holy One, Blessed be He: "My people, remember, please," I ask you to remember the time when Bilak and Bil'am joined together to destroy you, and they could not, because I upheld you as a father upholds his child and does not leave it in the hand of another. From Shittim to Gilgal, what is the relationship between this and that? And he answers: But the Holy One, Blessed be He, said to Israel: "Please remember," all the time that you were united to me, that wicked one could not with his sorceries and auguries dominate over you. When you stopped supporting me, and were at Shittim, what is written? "And the people ate and worshipped their gods." And at Gilgal, as our sages say: "At Gilgal they sacrificed bulls." And then your enemies dominated you. And all this for what? To know the justices of HaShem, that is, all these justices that I did with you in the time that you were united to me and I did not let anything in the world dominate you, and the wrath from above and below, and the evil classes could not come near you.
