**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
**102. “Immediately, ‘he went down to etc.”**
**Immediately, “he went down to him with a staff,”** that is, **with harsh judgment, “and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand,”** that is, **from that time,** the staff, which is the spear, **was withheld from him and he will not have it forever. “And slew him with his own spear”** (II Samuel 23:21) **– on account of that sin that he struck the rock with that staff, he died and did not enter the holy land, and this light was withheld from Israel.**

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 102:2
[Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 102:2](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Sulam%20on%20Zohar/s/Introduction/r/102:2)

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
Explanation: In order to understand this, everything that was explained above (section 94, second to last paragraph) must be recalled. Due to the great fusion of the *Atik Yomin*, it was only necessary to nullify the *Ban* alone, not the *Sag* at all, and then the *Bon* would rise straightaway and become *Sag* for all eternity. However, since the *Sag* and the *Ban* were attached together, the *Sag* was nullified along with the *Ban*, and as a result the temples were destroyed in the meantime. For the same reason, the illumination of Moses to the children of Israel was nullified as well, for he greatly sinned with regard to the connection of the *Ban* with the *Sag*, by striking the rock, as stated.

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 102:3
[Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 102:3](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Sulam%20on%20Zohar/s/Introduction/r/102:3)

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
Therefore, **“‘he went down to him with a staff, ’ with harsh judgment,”** as the nullification of the *Sag* was achieved through harsh judgment, since in fact he had no connection at all with the *Ban*, and the nullification of the *Ban* did not concern him whatsoever. This is the mystical meaning of the verse: “It seemed as when men wield upwards axes in a thicket of trees, and now all its carved work together they strike down with hatchet and hammers” (Psalms 74:5-6). On account of the raising and mitigation of the *Malkhut* and her ascent to the *Bina*, it is now like one who wields axes upward in a thicket of trees, since the *Sag* has also been nullified by this ascent, “struck down with hatchet and hammers.”

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 102:4
[Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 102:4](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Sulam%20on%20Zohar/s/Introduction/r/102:4)

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
This is the meaning of the statement: **“‘And plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand’ – from that time it was withheld from him and he will not have it forever.”** The spear actually belonged to *Ban*, as stated. Consequently, this illumination was nullified forever, since the *Ban* itself was subsequently renewed and became *Sag* **for all eternity**, and therefore there is no longer any purpose in using the staff for striking. This is why it states: **“‘And slew him with his own spear,” on account of that sin that he struck the rock with that staff, he died.”** Had [Moses] been careful to use [the staff] only at the ***tzor*** and not at the ***sela*** [rock], the aspect of *Sag* would not have been nullified together with the *Ban* and he would not have **died** but would have immediately ascended to the aspect of *Sag*. Accordingly, he **“did not enter the holy land,”** because the Land of Israel is the mystical meaning of the ascent of the *Ban* to the *Sag*. This is why it is called “**the holy land,”** because the brains of *Bina*, which then illuminate in it, are called **“holiness.”** Before the completion of the rectification, when there are ascents and descents, there are therefore destructions and exiles. However, at the completion of the rectification, the *Ban* will remain in the *Sag* for all eternity, which is the mystical meaning of the Land of Israel, as explained, and there will never be any further exile.
