**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
**122. “*Bet*, these two, etc.”**
[The letter] ***bet* from *Bereshit*** indicates **that these two combine together** in *Malkhut*. **They are two points, one is concealed and hidden, and** [the other] **one is in a revealed state. Since there is no separation between them, they are called “first,”** that is, only **one and not two.** For **one who takes this** one, **takes that** one as well, **and all is one, for He and His name are one, as it is stated: “That they may know that it is You alone whose name is YHVH”** (Psalms 83:19).

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 122:2
[Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 122:2](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Sulam%20on%20Zohar/s/Introduction/r/122:2)

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
Explanation: Those two points are the mystical meaning of the tempering of the attribute of judgment with the attribute of mercy, when *Malkhut* ascended and was tempered in *Bina*, which is the attribute of mercy, in the mystical meaning of the verse: “So they both walked” (Ruth 1:19), which is the mystical meaning of *Bina* and *Malkhut* together (as stated in the *Zohar*, *Parashat Pineḥas*, 57, and in several other places). ¹ Thus, the partition that was established upon *Malkhut* consists of both [*Malkhut* and *Bina*], and therefore there are **two points** combined as one there. [The *Zohar*] continues, that **“one is concealed and hidden, and** [the other] **one is in a revealed state,”** because the aspect of judgment in the point of *Malkhut* is **concealed and hidden,** and only the aspect of mercy from the point of *Bina* **is in a revealed state.** If not [for this concealment] the world would not be able to exist, as the Sages state: “Initially, the world was created with the attribute of judgment; He saw that the world could not exist, and partnered the attribute of mercy with it” (*Bereshit Rabba*, 1).

¹ This refers to the second constriction.

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 122:3
[Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 122:3](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Sulam%20on%20Zohar/s/Introduction/r/122:3)

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
[The *Zohar*] continues: **“Since there is no separation between them, they are called ‘first, ’ one and not two. One who takes this, takes that.”** In other words, although the attribute of judgment is **concealed,** this does not mean that the [fusion through collision] is not performed upon it, for those two points have become literally one, and the point of the *Malkhut* also receives this fusion with the point of *Bina*, only secretly rather than **in a revealed state.** The name *reishit* [“first”], which is in a singular [as opposed to plural] form, indicates this, that they are both one.

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 122:4
[Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 122:4](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Sulam%20on%20Zohar/s/Introduction/r/122:4)

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
**“And all is one, for He and His name are one.” “He”** refers to the *Bina*, while **“His name”** refers to the *Malkhut*. The text is saying that in the mystical meaning of **“He and His name are one”** both of them must necessarily be one, since when they are one the *Malkhut* also receives the supernal [fusion through collision] together with the *Bina*. In this [manner], the attribute of judgment is also ultimately tempered by itself at the completion of the rectification, when “on that day, the Lord shall be one and His name one” (Zechariah 14:9).

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 122:5
[Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 122:5](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Sulam%20on%20Zohar/s/Introduction/r/122:5)

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
On account of this attribute of judgment, which is incorporated in the ***bet*** of *Bereshit*, [the attribute of judgment, *Malkhut*, ] is called the “first” towards the *Ḥokhma*. The rectification [of the attribute of judgment] will be at the completion of the rectification, at which time the s**upernal *Ḥokhma*** will be revealed, and “the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:9), since it is the last gate, which is the first gate to the *Ḥokhma*. ² This is why it cites the verse: **“That they may know** that it is You [alone] whose name is the Lord,” for then the knowledge will be revealed the throughout the earth.
