**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
**151. “Rabbi Shimon opened,” etc.”**
**Rabbi Shimon opened** [his discourse] **and said: “In the beginning God created”** [Genesis 1:1]. **This verse requires examination. Anyone who says that there is another god perishes from the world, as it is stated: “Thus you shall say to them: The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens”** [Jeremiah 10:11]. **Because there is no god other than the Holy One, blessed be He.**

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 151:2

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
Explanation: This refers back to his previous statement: “**Sit down, and we will renew the rectification of the bride”** [section #150#]. [Rabbi Shimon] thus began to explain thoroughly the verse: “In the beginning God created,” which is the root of all the rectifications of the bride during the six thousand years. [He] based himself on his earlier explanation (section #14#) that ["God"] is [referring to] the supernal *Elohim*, which is *Bina*. This is called *Elohim* in the mystical meaning of: **“*Mi*** [who] has created ***eleh*** [these,” Isaiah 40:26]. ¹" and "*eleh*" form the letters of the word *elohim*, the name used here to refer to *Bina*. And just as *Mi* partnered with *eleh*, so too this name is always in partnership [with existence], and through this secret the world is sustained; see there in detail.

###### Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 151:3
[Sulam on Zohar, Introduction 151:3](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Sulam%20on%20Zohar/s/Introduction/r/151:3)

**The Sefaria Sulam, 2023:**
With this [explanation] in mind, [Rabbi Shimon] explains here that **“the gods that have not made the heavens** etc.” The Holy One, blessed be He, is the *Bina* that is called ***Elohim*,** in the mystical meaning of the partnering of ***Mi*** with ***eleh***. [This is effected] by means of the enclothing of the light of *Ḥokhma* in the precious garment that shines with the [the light of giving], as stated above, which is the secret through which the world is sustained. Therefore, “**the gods** [*elahaya*] **that have not made the heavens and the earth,”** and which could not give sustenance to the world, that is, the foreign gods which separate ***eleh*** from ***Mi*,** must certainly perish **“from under the heavens,”** [heavens] which are rectified by connecting ***eleh*** with ***Mi*.** The force [of these foreign gods] can never bring sustenance to the world, but only destruction. This is why the verse emphasizes: **“And from under these** [*eleh*] **heavens,”** and this is why he states [at the start of the next section]: **“This verse is a translation, apart from the word at the end of the verse,”** that is, *eleh*, for this represents that bonding of ***Mi*** with ***eleh*,** as he proceeds to explain.
