כשמזדכך המסך מעביותו ונפסק הזווג ממנו, ונסתלק האור מהכלי אז נבחנות האותיות שהן בלי מילוי. כי הכלים הם האותיות, והמילוי היא מדת העביות שבמסך, וכיון שנזדכך מעביות, הרי הוא חסר המילוי.
