**ועל**ראובן שנתערב לשמעון עבור הגמ' ובשעת שהחזיר לו הגוי המשכון אמר לראובן חזי דעלך סמיכנא ולא אשאל לגוי לא קרן ולא רבית כי הגוי אלם הוא. דבר זה פשוט כי חשוב קבלן כיון דפירש כך שלא יתבע אלא ממנו ולא מן הגוי ועוד כי פירש לו הטעם שהגוי אלם. ואין בלשון הזה אלא לשון קבלנות. ועדיף מתן לו ואני נותן לך. או תן לו ואני קבלן. דהוה ליה קבלן ואפילו יש נכסים ללוה יתבע מן הערב תחלה אם ירצה ועוד שהרי הגוי אלם ומגזם להורגו. ופסק ר"ת דאפילו בלוה ישראל שהוא אלם ולא ציית דינא. אפילו אם הערב איני ערב קבלן יתבע מן הערב תחלה אפילו יש נכסים ללוה. כ"ש גוי אלם ועוד שפירש לו תחלה שלא יתבע מן הגוי אלא ממנו.

*Q*. A went surety to B for a Gentile. When the Gentile returned¹ the pledge to him¹, B said to A that he was relying on A unconditionally and would not demand from the Gentile the principal or the interest, for the Gentile was a violent man. Now, the Gentile threatens to kill B if he demands his money.
*A*. Since B told A that he would demand his money directly from him, A assumed unconditional responsibility for the debt and became a *Kablan* (B. B. 173b). Therefore, B is entitled to collect the debt directly from A.
