המשחיתים זקנם במספרים אם אסור אם לא כי יש מהחכמים אומרים שלא אסרה תורה כ"א בתער:

Regarding those who cut their beards with scissors. Is this forbidden or not? For there are some sages who hold that the Torah only forbids shaving with a razor¹.

¹ This is the opinion cited in Tosafot on Shevuot 2b:12:2 . Compare Terumat Hadeshen 265 who forbids cutting the beard with scissors, because of the doubt that it can be performed correctly.

והשיבו לא תשחית אמרה תורה בכ"ד שיש בו השחתה, ואל המשחיתים תאמר איה צור מלכיכם וצור מעוזכם אשר במצוה הקלה לקיים אותו שכחתם:

They responded: The Torah declared *"Do not destroy the corners of your beard," (Leviticus 19:27)* - referring to anything that can destroy. And to the destroyers, go tell them: Where is your King and the Rock of your strength?² A commandment that can be fulfilled so easily, and you have forgotten it?
