**"וַיָּמָד** אֶת הַשַּׁעַר כַּמִּדּוֹת הָאֵלֶּה", "וְתָאָו וְאֵלָו וְאֵלַמָּו כַּמִּדּוֹת הָאֵלֶּה, וְחַלּוֹנוֹת לוֹ וּלְאֵלַמָּו [וְגוֹ'], אֹרֶךְ" פֵּרוּשׁ ¹ גּוֹבַהּ "חֲמִשִּׁים אַמָּה, וְרֹחַב חָמֵשׁ וְעֶשְׂרִים אַמָּה" מִגַּג תָּא לְגַגּוֹ שֶׁל הַשֵּׁנִי, "וְאֵלַמָּו לֶחָצֵר הַחִיצוֹנָה, וְתִמוֹרִים אֶל אֵילָו מִפּוֹ וּמִפּוֹ, וּשְׁמֹנֶה מַעֲלוֹת מַעֲלָו" (יחזקאל מ, לב-לד).

“And he measured the gate according to those measures.¹ Its cells, its pillars, and its vestibules were of those measures. There were windows in it and in its vestibules all around. It was fifty cubits high,² and twenty-five cubits wide.”³ 40:32-33. This means there were 25 cubits between the edge of the cell on one side and the edge of the cell opposite it. “Its vestibules were toward the outer courtyard. There were palm-like coronets on its pillars, and its stairway had eight steps.”⁴:34.

וּבְמִדּוֹת בַּיִת שֵׁנִי ¹ שָׁנִינוּ (פ"ב מ"ה) וְט"ו מַעֲלוֹת עוֹלוֹת מִתּוֹכָהּ לְעֶזְרַת יִשְׂרָאֵל, כְּנֶגֶד ט"ו שִׁיר הַמַּעֲלוֹת שֶׁבַּתְּהִלִּים, שֶׁעֲלֵיהֶן ² הַלְּוִיִּם אוֹמְרִים בַּשִּׁיר, לֹא הָיוּ טְרוּטוֹת, אֶלָּא מֻקָּפוֹת כַּחֲצִי גּוֹרֶן עֲגֻלָּה.

Tractate *Middos* states⁵ 2:5. that the Second *Beis HaMikdash* had “fifteen steps leading from [the Women’s Courtyard] to the Courtyard of the Israelites, corresponding to the fifteen “Songs of Ascent” in *Tehillim.* The Levites would stand on these steps and sing songs. [The steps] were not rectangular, but semi-circular instead.”
