**וְלִשְׁכָּה** "... אַחַת אֶל כֶּתֶף שַׁעַר הַקָּדִים" וּפִתְחָהּ אֶל "פְּנֵי דֶּרֶךְ הַצָּפֹן", (יחזקאל מ, מד), "לַכֹּהֲנִים שֹׁמְרֵי מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ הֵמָּה בְנֵי צָדוֹק הַקְּרֵבִים מִבְּנֵי לֵוִי אֶל ה' לְשָׁרְתוֹ" (יחזקאל מ, מו).

There was a chamber … “on the flank of the eastern gate”, its entrance “facing northward”.¹ 40:44. They were “for the *kohanim,* the keepers of the watch of the altar: they are the descendants of Tzadok, the ones [chosen] from the descendants of Levi to draw close to God and serve Him.”²46.

וּבְפֶרֶק קַמָּא דְּמִדּוֹת (מ"ד) שָׁנִינוּ בְּמִזְרָחוֹ שַׁעַר נִקָּנוֹר, וּשְׁתֵּי לְשָׁכוֹת הָיוּ לוֹ, אַחַת מִימִינוֹ וְאַחַת מִשְּׂמֹאלוֹ,¹ אַחַת לִשְׁכַּת פִּנְחָס הַמַּלְבִּישׁ הַכֹּהֲנִים בִּשְׁעַת עֲבוֹדָתָן וּמַפְשִׁיטָן אַחַר כָּךְ, וְאַחַת לִשְׁכַּת בֵּית עוֹשֶׂה חֲבִיתִין.

In the first chapter of *Middos,* it was taught:³ 1:4. “In the east was located the Gate of Nicanor. It had two chambers, one on the right and one on the left. One was the Chamber of Pinchas, the Clothes Butler and one was the Chamber of the Bakers of the *Chavitin.*” The Clothes Butler would dress the *kohanim* before their service in the *Beis HaMikdash,* and undress them afterwards.
