הא בגדול הא בקטן. והא דריש פ' בתרא דמו"ק (דף יז.) דהוו סנו שומעניה דשמתיה רב יהודה איכא למימר דקטנים הוו דגרסי קמיה וחיישי' דלמא מימשכי אי נמי אפילו הוו גדולים נידהו רב יהודה כיון שמצא מקום לנדותו ובדין היה כיון דסנו שומעניה. הר"ר אלחנן:

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**This is with an adult, that is with a minor:** Yet behold, in the last chapter of Moed Katan (17a), [about one] who gained a bad reputation - [there] Rav Yehudah excommunicated him! It can be said (answered) that it was minors who were studying before him, and we are concerned lest they by drawn [after him]. And also (another answer): Even though they were adults, Rav Yehudah excommunicated him, since he found room to do so. And it was legal, since he had gained a bad reputation (R. R. Elchanan).

כל עמר דנקי נחית אגב אימיה. כלומר מי שיראתו קודמת לחכמתו חכמתו מתקיימת ודואג ואחיתופל דלא מגני להו תורתן לפי שלא היה להם יראה כלל כדאיתא בסוטה פרק נוטל (דף כא.):

**Sefaria Community Translation:**
**All wool that entered clean with its mother:** Meaning to say, "Anyone whose fear of sin precedes his wisdom, his wisdom is enduring" (Avot 3:9). And the Torah of Doeg and Achitophel did not protect them, since they did not have any fear at all, as it is found in Sotah (21a) in the chapter [entitled] Notel.
