**associating with G-d either secretly or by flattery** -- such as one who serves G-d outwardly, but also has intent in this so that other people will praise and honor him. Hence, he associates in his worship, [two motives: devotion to] G-d and benefit from human beings. As he wrote earlier in chapter 2, "Secondly, the intellect is a spiritual entity, originating in the higher, spiritual world. It is a stranger in this world of gross material bodies. Sensual lust in man is the product of natural forces and of a combination of his physical elements. Its foundation is in this world, its root in this abode." Hence it is natural that the intellect becomes weak against the power of lust. This is what is written "G-d is in heaven", and if so, the soul within you is like a stranger among the bodily lusts since "you are on earth, therefore let your words be few". Because it is likely that you will allow your mouth to sin and be drawn in your words after the body.

**כי אין החזון הנראה וכו'**כצ"ל כמו שהוא בס"א. ופירושו מאחר שהם מאמינים שהש"י שינה בעבורם מנהג העולם וטבעו להראות נסים. הנה ודאי שהש"י עצמו יצוה לו את המשפט והתורה אשר ישים לפניהם שאין הנבואה המגעת לנביא יותר נפלא משנות מנהג הטבע ואם הש"י חפץ לשנות הטבע ודאי שחפץ להשים תורתו בפי הנביא ולגמול ולענוש כפי הראוי. ואחר שזכני השם לפרש ספר הכוזרי הנה ראיתי שאף החבר בסי' פ"ז ממאמר א' העיר ענין הזה שזכר המחבר כאן בביאור יותר קצת. וז"ל שם. אמר החבר השבת וכו' וזהו שהעם עם מה שהאמינו במה שבא משה אחר המופתים האלה נשאר בנפשותם ספק איך ידבר האלהים עם האדם כדי שלא תהיה התחלת התורה מעצה ומחשבה מחמת אדם ואחר יחברוהו עזר ואומץ מאת האלהים מפני שהיה רחוק הדבור בעיניהם מזולת אדם בעבור שהדבור גשמי ורצה ה' וכו'. והנה כוונת החבר מבוארת שיש מקום עם הבוערים שיאמרו שהתורה מעצת אדם מפני שאע"פ שיאמינו בנסים שיעשה הנביא עדיין לא יאמינו שהשם ידבר עם האדם ר"ל הנביא מלמדו להדריכו בדרך ילך כי זה דרכם כסל למו לומר שמי שאינו אדם לא יצוייר הדבור בו וכמו שאמר המלך הכוזרי בסי' שאחריו וז"ל מי ששומע דבריכם כי אלהים דבר עם המונכם וכו' הדין עמו שייחס אליכם דעת ההגשמה. וזה שאמר המחבר כאן שעכ"פ מאחר שמוכרח להאמין המופתים למה לא יאמין הדבור אל הנביא כי אין זה יותר פלא משנות מנהג הטבע בעבורו:
