אחד מהם נקראהו – **מין**, רצוני לומר, כמו שהיה מתחלה, כי כל עצם לשון "בעצמו" הוא, כלומר כמו שהוא, והענין הכולל אשר יכלול שני מינים או יותר ויהיה מעמיד להם³⁴ נקראהו – **סוג**. והענין אשר בו יוכר ויבדל במחלט הנה הנה הוא יכלול הכל. ואין שם סוג יותר כולל ממנו, ואנחנו נקראהו גם כן – **העצם**. ונקרא הגשם מחלט **הסוג העליון**, ונקרא האדם, הסוס העקרב, החומר, הברזל והדומים להם **המינים האחרונים** בעבור כי אין תחת כל מין מהם זולת אישי המין, רצוני לומר, פרטים, כמו "אדם" שכולל ראובן ושמעון. ונקרא החי – **הסוג האמצעי**, או **המין האמצעי**, כי הוא סוג בסמיכות אל מה שתחתיו ממיני החי, והוא מין בסמיכות אל הגשם
