תָּא חֲזֵי, רְחִימוּתָא עִלָּאָה דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, לְמַלְכָּא דְּהֲוָה לֵיהּ בַּר יְחִידָאי, וַהֲוָה חָטֵי קַמֵּי מַלְכָּא, יוֹמָא חַד סָרַח קַמֵּי מַלְכָּא, אָמַר מַלְכָּא, כָּל הָנֵי יוֹמִין אַלְקֵינָא לָךְ, וְלָא קַבִּלְתְּ. מִכָּאן וְאֵילָךְ חָמֵי מַאי אַעְבִּיד לָךְ, אִי אַתָּרִיךְ לָךְ מִן אַרְעָא, וְאַפִּיק לָךְ מִמַּלְכוּתָא, דִּילְמָא יְקוּמוּן עֲלָךְ דּוּבֵּי חַקְלָא, אוֹ זְאֵבֵי חַקְלָא, אוֹ לִסְטִין, וְיַעַבְרוּן לָךְ מֵעָלְמָא. מַה אַעְבִּיד. אֶלָּא אֲנָא וְאַנְתְּ נֵיפוּק מֵאַרְעָא.

We may compare Him to a king who had a dearly beloved son who repeatedly offended against him. At length one day the king said: All these days I have chastised thee and thou hast not hearkened. What shall I do to thee? If I banish thee from the land and depose thee from the kingdom, perhaps bears or wolves or robbers will attack thee and destroy thee. Therefore I and thou together will leave the land.

כַּךְ אַף אָנִי, אֲנָא וְאַנְתְּ נִיפוּק מֵאַרְעָא (אף אנא ואנת נהך בגלותא וניפוק כחדא). כַּךְ אָמַר קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, יִשְׂרָאֵל מַה אַעְבִּיד לְכוּ, הָא אַלְקֵינָא לְכוּ, וְלָא אַרְכִּיתוּ אוּדְנַיְיכוּ, הָא אַיְיתֵינָא עָלַיְיכוּ מָארֵי תְּרִיסִין, מָארֵי טַפְסִין, לְאַלְקָאָה לְכוֹן, וְלָא שְׁמַעְתּוּן. אִי אַפִּיק לְכוּ מֵאַרְעָא לְחוֹדְכוֹן, דָּחִילְנָא עָלַיְיכוּ מִכַּמָּה דּוּבִּין, מִכַּמָּה זְאֵבִין, דִּיקוּמוּן עָלַיְיכוּ, וְיַעַבְרוּן לְכוּ מֵעָלְמָא. אֲבָל מַה אַעְבִּיד לְכוּן, אֶלָּא אֲנָא וְאַתּוּן נֵפוּק מֵאַרְעָא, וּנְהַךְ בְּגָלוּתָא. הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב וְיִסַּרְתִּי אֶתְכֶם לְמֵהַךְ בְּגָלוּתָא. וְאִי תֵּימְרוּן דְּאֶשְׁבּוֹק לְכוֹן, אַף אָנִי עִמְּכוֹן. שֶׁבַע עַל חַטֹּאתֵיכֶם, דָּא שֶׁבַע דְּיִתְתָּרָךְ עִמְּכוֹן, וַאֲמַאי. עַל חַטֹּאתֵיכֶם. הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב, (ישעיהו נ׳:א׳) וּבְפִשְׁעֵיכֶם שֻׁלְּחָה אִמְּכֶם. אָמַר קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, אַתּוּן גְּרַמְתּוּן, דַּאֲנָא וְאַתּוּן לָא נֵידוּר (ס"א בארעא) בְּעָלְמָא (נ"א נטרוד (ס"א מארעא) מעלמא). הָא מַטְרוֹנִיתָא נַפְקַת מֵהֵיכָלָה עִמְּכוֹן, הָא אִתְחַרֵב כֹּלָּא, הֵיכָלָא דִּילִי וְדִלְכוֹן אִתְחָרַב. דְּהָא לְמַלְכָּא לָא אִתְחֲזֵי הֵיכָלָא, אֶלָּא כַּד אִיהוּ עָיֵיל עִם מַטְרוֹנִיתָא. וְחֶדְוָה דְּמַלְכָּא לָא אִשְׁתְּכַח.

So God said to Israel: What shall I do to you? Behold I have smitten you and ye have not inclined your ears. I have sent against you smiters and burners and ye have not hearkened. If I send you out of the land alone, I fear for the many bears and wolves who may rise against you and drive you from the earth. What, then, shall I do? I and you will leave the land and go in exile: yet think not that I shall abandon you, for “I also” shall be with you. For “Seven” shall be banished with you: the Matrona shall leave her temple with you, and all will be desolate, both my temple and yours.

אֶלָּא בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּעָאל בְּהֵיכָלָא דְּמַטְרוֹנִיתָא, וְאִשְׁתְּכַח בְּרָהָא עִמָּהּ בְּהֵיכָלָא, חַדָּאן כֻּלְּהוּ כַּחֲדָא. הַשְׁתָּא דְּלָא אִשְׁתְּכָחוּ בְּרָא וּמַטְרוֹנִיתָא, הָא הֵיכָלָא חֲרֵיבָא מִכֹּלָּא. אֶלָּא אֲנָא מַה אַעְבִּיד. אַף אֲנָא עִמְּכוֹן. וְהַשְׁתָּא אַף עַל גַּב דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל אִינְהוּ בְּגָלוּתָא, קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא אִשְׁתְּכַח עִמְּהוֹן, וְלָא שָׁבִיק לוֹן, דְּכַד יִפְקוּן, יִשְׂרָאֵל מִן גָּלוּתָא, קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, יְתוּב עִמְּהוֹן. דִּכְתִּיב, (דברים ל) וְשָׁב יְיָ' אֱלֹהֶיךָ, וְשָׁב יְיָ' אֱלֹהֶיךָ וַדַּאי. וְהָא אִתְּמַר.

Hence I too will be with you, and therefore when Israel emerge from captivity, God will return with them.’
