תָּאנָא, וַיִּבֶן מֹשֶׁה מִזְבֵּחַ כְּמָה דַּאֲמֵינָא. וַיִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ ה' נִסִּי. ה' נִסִּי מַמָּשׁ. אֲמַאי. בְּגִין דַּעֲמָלֵק נָטַל כָּל אִינּוּן דַּהֲווֹ גְּזִירִין, וְלָא אִתְפְּרָעוּ, וְגָזַר לוֹן וְשָׁדֵי לְהוּ לְעֵילָּא, וְאָמַר טוֹל מַה דְּאִתְרְעִית בֵּיהּ. בֵּיהּ שַׁעֲתָא מַה כְּתִיב. וַיֹּאמֶר כִּי יַד עַל כֵּס יָהּ מִלְחָמָה לַה' בַּעֲמָלֵק מִדֹּר דֹּר. מִדֹּר דֹּר חֲסֵרִין, מִדִּיּוּרִין דִּלְעֵילָּא, וּמִדִּיּוּרִין דִּלְתַתָּא.

אָמַר רִבִּי יְהוּדָה, בְּכָל דָּרָא וְדָרָא, בְּכָל דָּרִין דְּאַתְיָין לְעָלְמָא, לֵית לָךְ דָּר דְּלֵית בְּהוּ מֵהַהוּא זַרְעָא בִּישָׁא, וקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא אֲגַח בְּהוּ קְרָבָא. (ר' יצחק אמר מדירותא דלתתא לדיורא דלעילא) וְעָלַיְיהוּ כְּתִיב (תהילים ק״ד:ל״ה) יִתַּמּוּ חַטָּאִים מִן הָאָרֶץ וְגוֹ'. מִן הָאָרֶץ: בְּעָלְמָא דֵּין, וּבְעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי. בֵּיהּ זִמְנָא כְּתִיב, בָּרְכִי נַפְשִׁי אֶת ה' הַלְלוּיָהּ.

¹THE LORD WILL HAVE WAR WITH AMALEK FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION. R. Judah said: There never was a generation of men, nor ever will be, in this world without this evil seed, and the Holy One, blessed be He, carries on His war against it. Of such it is written: “Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Hallelukah!” (Ps. 104, 35).’
