And so it was, when Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, which was near; for He said, “The people may change their minds when they see battle, and return to Egypt.” So God led the people round about, by way of the wilderness of the Sea of Reeds; it was armed that the children of Israel ascended from the land of Egypt. And Moses carried the bones of Joseph with him, for [Joseph] had adjured the children of Israel, saying: “When God redeems you, you must take my bones up with you from this place.” *They journeyed from Sukkot and encamped at Etam, at the edge of the wilderness. And the LORD went before them: by day in a pillar of cloud to show them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire to illuminate their path, so that they might walk by day and by night. Never did the pillar of cloud depart from before the people by day, nor the pillar of fire at night.

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to the children of Israel; they must turn back and encamp near Pi HaḤirot, between Migdol and the sea, before Ba’al Tzefon; it is opposite this place that you shall encamp, alongside the sea. Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel: ‘They are lost in the land: the wilderness has shut them in.’ And I shall strengthen Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will be glorified through Pharaoh and all of his hosts; all of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD.” And they did as [God had commanded]. *Word reached the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the hearts of Pharaoh and his servants changed with regard to the people. They said, “What is it that we have done, releasing the Israelites from servitude to us?” He harnessed his chariot and took his men along with him: six hundred choice chariots he took, and all the other chariots of Egypt, with officers over all of them. The LORD strengthened the heart of Pharaoh, King of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel as they went out with an uplifted hand. *The Egyptians pursued them and overtook them while they were encamped at the sea – all of Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and his horsemen and army – at Pi HaḤirot, opposite Ba’al Tzefon. As Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel raised their eyes and they saw: all of Egypt was marching behind them. They were very much afraid – and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD. They said to Moses, “Does Egypt lack graves, that you have brought us to die in the desert? What have you done to us, bringing us out of Egypt? Is this not exactly what we told you when we were still there – ‘Leave us be, just let us serve Egypt, for it is better for us to serve Egypt than to die in the desert!’” But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear. Stand here and witness the salvation that the LORD will perform for you today; for as you see the Egyptians today, you will not see them again as long as you live. The LORD will wage war for you, and you need only remain silent.”

The LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry out to Me? Tell the children of Israel that they must depart. And as for you – raise your staff and stretch your hand out over the sea and divide it, so that the children of Israel may come through the sea on dry land. And I – I shall make the hearts of Egypt bold and they will enter in after them, and I will be glorified through Pharaoh and all of his hosts, his chariots and horsemen; the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I am glorified through Pharaoh and all of his hosts, his chariots and horsemen. So the angel of God who walked before the Israelite camp departed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud departed from in front of them and came to rest behind. And they came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and when cloud and darkness came, the night was lit up – and one camp did not come near the other all that night. Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the LORD moved the sea with a strong easterly wind all that night; it turned the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided. So the children of Israel walked into the midst of the sea on dry land, and the water was like a wall for them on their right and on their left. The Egyptians pursued them, entering in after them, all the horses of Pharaoh, his chariots and horsemen, into the sea. And when the morning watch arrived, the LORD looked upon the Egyptian camp in a pillar of cloud and fire, and threw the Egyptian camp into confusion. The wheels of their chariots were unfastened and drove with difficulty. “Let us escape from Israel,” said the Egyptians, “for the LORD is waging war for them against Egypt!”

The LORD said to Moses, “Raise your hand over the sea, and the waters will come down upon the Egyptians, their chariots and horsemen.” Moses raised his hand over the sea, and as morning approached, the sea returned to its strength: all the Egyptians fled against it – and the LORD shook the Egyptians into the sea. The waters returned, covering the chariots and horsemen, along with all of Pharaoh’s hosts who had entered the sea after them – not one survived. But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the water was like a wall for them on their right and on their left. That day the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the seashore. When Israel saw the great power the LORD had displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD, and believed in the LORD and in His servant, Moses.

**English Edition; Koren Publishers Jerusalem, 2017:**
Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD, saying: I will sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously; horse and rider He has hurled into the sea.
The LORD is my strength and song; He has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will beautify Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.
The LORD is a Master of war; LORD is His name.
Pharaoh’s chariots and army He cast into the sea; the best of his officers drowned in the Sea of Reeds.
The deep waters covered them; they went down to the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, LORD, is majestic in power. Your right hand, LORD, shatters the enemy.
In the greatness of Your majesty, You overthrew those who rose against You. You sent out Your fury; it consumed them like stubble.
By the blast of Your nostrils the waters piled up. The surging waters stood straight like a wall; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
The enemy said, “I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the spoil. My desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword. My hand will destroy them.”
You blew with Your wind; the sea covered them. They sank in the mighty waters like lead.
Who is like You, LORD, among the mighty? Who is like You – majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?
You stretched out Your right hand, the earth swallowed them.
In Your loving-kindness, You led the people You redeemed. In Your strength, You guided them to Your holy abode.
Nations heard and trembled; terror gripped Philistia’s inhabitants.
The chiefs of Edom were dismayed, Moab’s leaders were seized with trembling, the people of Canaan melted away.
Fear and dread fell upon them. By the power of Your arm, they were still as stone – until Your people crossed, LORD, until the people You acquired crossed over.
You will bring them and plant them on the mountain of Your heritage – the place, LORD, You made for Your dwelling, the Sanctuary, LORD, Your hands established. The LORD will reign for ever and all time.
When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and riders went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked on dry land through the sea.
Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed after her, with tambourines and dances. And Miriam led them singing, “Sing to the LORD, for He has triumphed gloriously; horse and rider He has hurled into the sea.”
Moses led the Israelites away from the Sea of Reeds, setting out towards the wilderness of Shur; they walked across the wilderness for three days and did not find any water. And when they came to Marah, they could not drink water there, for it was bitter; and so that place was named Marah [Bitter]. So the people complained to Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” He cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree; he cast it into the waters, and the waters were sweetened; at that place He gave them statutes and ordinances, and there He tested them. He said, “If you heed the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in His eyes, listening to all of His commandments and guarding all His statutes, I will not inflict upon you any of the diseases which I put upon the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your Healer.”

And you shall bring an offering consumed by fire, a burnt-offering to the LORD: two young bullocks, one ram, and seven yearling male lambs; they shall be to you unblemished. And you shall perform their meal-offerings, fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah for each bull, two-tenths of an ephah for the ram; and one-tenth of an ephah for each of the seven lambs; and one goat for a sin-offering, to make atonement for you. All this aside from the morning burnt-offering, the daily offering; You shall offer all of these as food, on each of the seven days, a burnt-offering by fire of pleasing aroma to the LORD, along with the regular daily offering and its libation. On the seventh day there shall be a sacred assembly: you shall do no laborious work.

**English Edition; Koren Publishers Jerusalem, 2017:**
And David spoke the words of this song to the LORD – on the day the LORD saved him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. And he said: LORD, my Rock, my Fortress – and my Deliverer; my God, my Rock – I shelter in Him; my Shield and the Strength for my salvation; my Keep and my Refuge, my Savior; You save me from violence. Praised One! I call to the LORD, and from my enemies I am saved – for breaking-waves of death were all around me, torrents of evil assailed me; the ropes of the grave encircled me, traps of death were in front of me.
In my anguish I called to the LORD – to my God, I called out – and He heard from His sanctuary, my voice and my pleas were in His ears.
The land shook and quaked, the foundations of the heavens trembled and shook from His anger; smoke rose from His nostrils, consuming fire from His mouth; coals flamed from Him.
And He bent the heavens and descended, heavy mist beneath His feet; upon a cherub He rode, He flew and appeared on the wings of the wind.
He placed darkness as pavilions around Him, glooms of water, clouds of the sky; from the brilliance before Him, fire-coals flamed.
The LORD thundered from heaven, the High One sounded His voice.
He sent down arrows and scattered them, lightning and stunned them; channel-beds of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were revealed – from the LORD’s rebuke, from the force of breath from His nostrils.
 He reached from the heights, He took me, He drew me out from a mass of waters;
He saved me from my strong enemy, from my haters who were mightier than me: they overtook me on my day of calamity, but the LORD was my stay:
He brought me out to an open place, He delivered me – for He delighted in me.
The LORD has rewarded me, according to my merit, according to the cleanness of my hands He has repaid me; because I kept the ways of the LORD, and was not corrupted away from my God; all His laws are before me and His statutes; I will not turn from them.
I have been faultless before Him, and have kept myself from sin; the LORD has repaid me according to my merit, my cleanness before His eyes.
With the constant person, You are constant; with the faultless hero, You are faultless; with the pure, You act with purity; with the perverse, You act with subtlety; an oppressed people, You save, and Your eyes on the haughty, humble them.
You are my Lamp, LORD; the LORD illuminates my darkness. With You, I can run against a battalion; with my God, I can jump city walls.
Awesome God, His way is perfect; the LORD’s words are pure, He is the shield of all who take refuge in Him; for who is God, if not the LORD? Who is a Rock, if not our God?
Awesome God, my Stronghold of strength, who perfects my way; He makes my feet like a deer’s, and stands me here in high places; He trains my hands for war, and He sets a copper bow in my arms.
 You have given me Your shield of protection; in descending to me, You have made me great. You widened my steps beneath me and my feet did not stumble;
I pursued my enemies and destroyed them, I did not return until they were consumed;
I consumed and crushed them so they could not rise, and they fell beneath my feet. You have girded me with the strength for war; those who rose against me, You have subdued beneath me; You gave me the necks of my enemies, my haters, so I could cut them down.
They looked for help, but there was no rescuer; to the LORD, but they were not answered. And I ground them like dust of the earth, like mud in the streets I stamped and crushed them.
You have saved me from disputes in my people; You have kept me to be a ruler of nations – a people I have not known will serve me, a foreign people will submit to me; when they hear of me, they will heed me; a foreign people will become weak and come trembling out of their fortresses.
The LORD lives, blessed is my Rock, exalted; God, Rock of my salvation. Awesome God who avenges me, and who sinks peoples beneath me, who brings me out from before my enemies, and raises me above those who rise against me; from the man of violence, You save me.
Therefore, I will thank You, LORD, among the nations, and to Your name I will sing praise.
Tower of Salvation to His king, He shows kindness to His anointed, to David and his descendants for ever.

You must tithe all the produce of your grain, that which grows in the field, each year. You shall then eat it in the presence of the LORD your God, at the place He will choose as a dwelling place for His name; the tithes of your grain, wine and oil as well as the firstborn of your herd and flock, so that you might learn to hold the LORD your God in awe as long as you live. If the distance is very great for you, so that you cannot carry it all; if the place the LORD your God chooses as a dwelling place for His name is far away from you, and the LORD your God blesses you with plenty, then you may sell your produce for money and, holding that money in your hand, go to the place which the LORD your God will choose. You may purchase with that money anything you may wish for of the herd or flock, of wine or intoxicating drinks: anything your heart desires; and you shall eat there, in the presence of the LORD your God, and you and your household shall rejoice. As for the Levite who dwells within your gates – you shall not forsake him, for he does not have a portion or an inheritance among you.

At the end of every third year, you must take out all the tithes of your harvest from that year, and set them down within your gates. Then the Levite, who does not have a portion or an inheritance among you, along with the stranger and orphan and widow within your gates, shall come and eat and be satisfied; do this, so that the LORD your God might bless you in all that you do.
At the end of every seven years, you shall institute a release. And this is the manner of the release: every creditor shall let go of what he is entitled to from his debtor; he may not demand payment from his fellow or his kinsman, for a release has been proclaimed for [the honor of] the LORD. You may ask payment of a gentile, but any claim you hold against your kinsmen must be released. Nevertheless, you will not have paupers among you, for the LORD shall surely bless you in the land that He is giving you as a portion, to inherit it – but only if you heed the voice of the LORD your God, safeguarding and keeping all of the commandments I am commanding you today. For the LORD your God will bless you as He has promised you: you shall lend to many nations and you shall not borrow; you shall rule over many nations and shall not be ruled by others.

If there should be a poor person among you, one of your kinsmen in one of the cities in your land, which the LORD your God has given to you, you must not harden your heart and you must not close your hand to your impoverished kinsman. Rather, you must open your hand to him, making him a loan to tide him over his lack. Take care, lest evil thoughts enter your heart, saying: “The seventh year, the year of release draws near,” causing you to treat your impoverished kinsman meanly, withholding loans from him; he might then call out to God because of you and it will be held against you as a sin. You must certainly give to him, and let your heart not be grudging when you give, for because of this deed, the LORD your God shall bless you in all that you do and in all of your endeavors. For there will never cease to be poor people in the land; and so I am commanding you: you must open your hand to your kinsman, to the poor and destitute in your land.
If your Hebrew kinsman or kinswoman is sold to you, he shall work for you for six years, and in the seventh year, you must release him from your service, free. When you set him free from your service you must not send him away empty-handed. You must give generously to him of your flock, your granary and your wine-vat with which the LORD your God has blessed you; so you shall give him. And you shall remember that you were once a slave in the land of Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you; this is why, today, I command you thus. Should [the slave] say: “I would not leave your home;” because he is fond of you and of your household, and is happy living with you, then you shall take an awl and pierce his ear upon the door with it, and he shall then be your slave forever; the same should be done with your female slave. Do not feel it a hardship when you release him from your service, free; for he has served you for six years – twice a hired hand’s work, and now the LORD your God will bless you in all that you do.

Every male firstborn that is delivered among your herd and your flock, you shall consecrate to the LORD your God: you may not perform work with the male firstborn of your oxen, nor shear the male firstborn of your sheep. You shall eat them in the presence of the LORD your God each year, you and your household, in the place which the LORD will choose. If it is blemished: lame or blind, or with any other serious blemish, you may not offer it to the LORD your God. Eat it within your gates; [it may be eaten by] pure and impure alike, as the gazelle and as the hart. But its blood you may not eat; you must spill it on the ground like water.

Remember the month of Spring: bring a Pesaḥ offering to the LORD your God, for in the month of Spring, the LORD your God took you out of Egypt at night. You shall bring a Pesaḥ offering to the LORD your God, sheep and cattle, at the place the LORD shall choose as a dwelling place for His name. You may not eat leaven with it; you must eat matzot, the bread of oppression, with it for seven days – for you left Egypt in great haste – so that you remember the day of your exodus from Egypt all the days of your life. *And no leaven shall be seen by you within all your borders for seven days, and none of the meat which you offer in the evening of the first day shall be allowed to remain until morning. You may not sacrifice the Pesaḥ offering in any one of your cities, which the LORD your God gives you. Only at the place which the LORD your God shall choose as a dwelling place for His name – that is where you should sacrifice the Pesaḥ offering in the evening, before sunset, in the season of your exodus from Egypt. You shall cook it and eat it in the place the LORD your God will choose, and in the morning you shall turn back and go to your abode. For six days, you shall eat matzot; the seventh day is a day of assembly for the LORD your God: on it, you may not perform work.
Count for yourselves seven weeks; when the sickle begins to cut the standing grain, then shall you begin to count the seven weeks. And you shall celebrate a Festival of Weeks [Shavuot] for the LORD your God, bringing a free-will offering, as much as you can afford, according to the blessing the LORD your God has given you. And you shall rejoice in the presence of the LORD your God: you and your sons and daughters, your male and female slaves, and the Levite who dwells within your gates, along with the stranger and orphan and widow that are among you, at the place that the LORD your God shall choose as a dwelling place for His name. And you shall remember that you were once a slave in Egypt; keep and fulfill all of these statutes.

**English Edition; Koren Publishers Jerusalem, 2017:**
You shall celebrate a Festival of Booths [Sukkot] for yourselves for seven days, when you gather [your produce] into your granary and wine-vat. And you shall rejoice on your festival: you and your sons and daughters, your male and female slaves, and the Levite, the stranger and orphan and widow that dwell within your gates. You shall celebrate for seven days for the LORD your God in the place which the LORD shall choose, for the LORD your God shall bless you in all of your produce and all that you do; and you will be truly joyful. Three times in the year, all your males shall appear before the LORD your God at the place He will choose: on Pesaḥ, Shavuot and Sukkot. They shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed. Each shall bring such a gift as he can, in proportion to the blessing the LORD your God grants you.

**English Edition; Koren Publishers Jerusalem, 2017:**
This day he will halt at Nob; he will wave his hand, mountain of the daughter of Zion, hill of Jerusalem. See, the sovereign LORD of hosts will lop off the boughs with an axe. The tall trees will be felled, the lofty ones laid low. He will cut down the forest thickets with an axe. Lebanon will fall before the Mighty One.
A shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a branch will bear fruit. The spirit of the LORD will rest on him – a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and power, a spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD, and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what his eyes see, or decide by what his ears hear; with justice he will judge the poor, and with equity defend the humble in the land. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Justice will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will graze with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. An infant will play near the cobra’s hole, and a young child put his hand into the viper’s nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. On that day the stock of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.
On that day the LORD will reach out His hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of His people from Assyria, Lower Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath and the islands of the sea. He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; He will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth. Ephraim’s jealousy will vanish, and Judah’s harassment will end. Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, nor will Judah be hostile toward Ephraim. They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia to the west; together they will plunder the people to the east. Edom and Moab will be subject to them, and the Ammonites shall obey them. The LORD will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian sea; with a scorching wind He will sweep His hand over the Euphrates River. He will break it up into seven streams so that people can cross over in sandals. There will be a highway for the remnant of His people that is left from Assyria, as there was for Israel when they came up from Egypt. In that day you will say: “I will praise You, O LORD. Although You were angry with me, Your anger has turned away and You have comforted me. Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song. He has become my salvation.” With joy you will draw water from the springs of salvation. In that day you will say: “Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done, and proclaim that His name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for He has done glorious things; let this be known throughout the world. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.”
