The saying goes “Life is what happens to us while we’re busy making other plans.”
Reality presents us with challenging situations that tear us between the life we want and the life we receive.
We find ourselves in a dispute with Divine Providence over what could have been different.
However, life becomes joyful when we manage to ride the wave and accept what is happening— when we let go of what we wanted and go with what we've been given.
The secret to happiness lies in the ability to understand that the main decisions are made by destiny.
They are determined in a way that is beyond human understanding, and therefore it is impossible to judge life using our own sense of logic or reason.
To understand this deeply, we want to explore an important question: Why was the division of the land of Israel done by lottery?
After all, the decision was backed by the Urim and Thummim—wasn’t that enough?
Especially since a lottery often suggests weakness or a lack of ability to decide. Lotteries are used in democratic systems where every vote counts, and no single authority can arbitrarily decide.
But a king, who is the sole voice, does not hold lotteries or consultations—he gives commands.
So where is the honor of the Holy One, Blessed be He, who seemingly needed to convince through a lottery?
