הֲוֵי דְכִיר יְיָ מַה דְאִתְגָּזַר לְמֶהֱוֵי לָנָא אִסְתַּכֵּל מִן שְׁמַיָּא וַחֲזֵי יָת כְּסוּפָנָא:
Remember, O Lord, whatwas decreed to befall us; lookfrom heaven and see our disgrace.
אַחֲסַנְתָּנָא אִתְהַפְּכַת לְחִלּוֹנָאֵי בֵּיתָנָא לְעַמִין נוּכְרָאִין:
Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers; our house to foreign peoples.
הֲוֵינָן מְתִילִין לְיַתְמִין דְלֵית לְהוֹן אַבָּא אִמְהָתָנָא כְאַרְמְלָן דַאֲזָלוּ גַבְרֵיהוֹן בְּקִרְוֵי יַמָּא וּמְסַפְּקָא לְהוֹן אִם אִינוּן קַיָּימִין:
We have becomelike orphans who have no father, our mothers like widowswhose husbands have gone into the cities of the sea and it is uncertain if they are alive.
מֵימָנָא בְּכַסְפָּא שְׁתֵינָא קִיסָנָא בְדָמִין יֵיתוּן:
We drink our water for money and our wood comes at a price.
עַל פִּירְקַת צַוְורָנָא אִטְעֲנָנָא כַּד הֲוֵינָא אָזְלִין בְּשִׁבְיָתָא חֲמָא נְבוּכַדְנֶצַּר רַשִּׁיעָא סַרְכַיָּא דִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל דְאָזְלִין רֵיקָנִין פַּקֵּיד לְחַיָיטָא סִפְרֵי אוֹרַיְתָא וּלְמֶעְבַּד מִנְהוֹן גוֹאַלְקָן וּמַלִּיאוּ יָתְהוֹן מִן פְּרִידָא דִּי עַל סְפַר פְּרָת וּטְעָן יָתְהוֹן עַל צַוְורֵיהוֹן וּבֵי הִיא זִימְנָא לָעֵינָא וְלָא הֲוַת נְיָחָא לָנָא:
Uponthe bone of our necks we were ladenwhen we went into exile. The wicked Nebuchadnezzar saw that the commanders of the Israelites were going without any load and he ordered that they sew Torah scrolls and make sacks out of them. And they filled them with pebbles from the edge of the Euphrates and they loaded them upon their necks. At that time we were tired and there was no rest for us.
מִצְרַיִים יְהַבְנָא סְטַר (בת"ק סְעַד) לְאִתְפַּרְנְסָא תַמָּן וּלְאָתוּר לְמִסְבַּע לַחֲמָא:
We gave support to Egyptso that we might be sustained there and to Assyria so that we might have enough bread.
אַבְהָתָנָא חָבוּ וְלֵיתְהוֹן בְּעַלְמָא וְנַחְנָא בַתְרֵיהוֹן עִוְיַיתְהוֹן סוֹבַרְנָא:
Our fathers sinned and are no longerin the world, but we have borne their iniquitiesafter them.
בְּנוֹי דְחָם דְאִתְיְהִיבוּ עַבְדִין לִבְנוֹי דְשֵׁם אִינוּן שַׁלִּיטוּ בָּנָא פָרִיק לֵית מִיֶּדְהוֹן:
The sons of Ham, who were given as slaves to the sons of Shem, ruled over us and there was no one to deliver us from their hands.
בְּסַכְּנַת נַפְשָׁנָא נַיְיתָא לְחֵם פַּרְנָסוּתָנָא מִן קֳדָם קְטוֹל דְחַרְבָּא דְאָתֵי מִן סְטַר מַדְבְּרָא:
Atthe risk of our lives we gather breadto sustain us from before theslaying swordthat comes from across the wilderness.
מַשְׁכָנָא הֵיךְ תַּנּוּרָא אִתְקַדְרוּ מִן קֳדָם מַפַּח כַּפְנָא:
Our skin has become black like an oven, because of the exhaustion of starvation.
נְשַׁיָּא דַהֲווּ נְסִיבָן לִגְבַר בְּצִיּוֹן אִתְעַנִּיאוּ מִן אֲרַמָאֵי וּבְתוּלְתַּיָא בְּקִירְוֵי יְהוּדָה מִן כַּשְׂדָאֵי:
Womenwho were married to men in Zion were rapedby Romans and virgins in the cities of Judahby Chaldeans.
רַבְרְבָנִין בִּדֵיהוֹלֹ אִצְטְלִיבוּ אַפֵּי סָבַיָּא לָא סָבָרוּ:
Princes were impaled by their hands and the faces of the elders they did not respect.
רוֹבִין רֵיחַיָּא נְטָלוּ וְטָלַיָּא בִּצְלִיבַת קֵיסָא תְקַלּוּ:
The young men carried millstones; and the boys staggered underthe beam of wood.
סָבַיָּא מִתְּרַע סַנְהֶדְרִין אִתְבַּטְלוּ וְרוֹבִין מִן בֵּית זְמָרֵיהוֹן:
The elders ceased from the gatesof the Sanhedrin;and the young men from theirhouses of music.
בְּטִילַת חֶדְוַת לִבְבָנָא אִיתְהַפִּיךְ לְאֶבְלָא חִינוּגָנָא:
The joy of our hearts has ceased; our dancing has turned into mourning.
נְפָּלַת כְּלִילָא דְרֵישָׁנָא וַוי לָנָא אֲרוּם חַבְנָא:
The crown of our head has fallen; Woe to us! for we have sinned.
עַל דֵין בֵּית מוּקְדְּשָׁא דְאִצְתְּדֵי הֲוָה חָלִישׁ לִבְבָנָא וְעַל אִלֵּין עַמָּא בֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל דְאָזְלוּ בְּגָלוּתָא מִתַּמָּן הֲווּ חֲשִׁיכַן עֵינָנָא:
Because ofour Temple, which is desolate, our heart was weak. And because of thesepeople of the House of Israel who went into exile from there our eyes have become dim.
עַל טוּרָא דְצִיּוֹן דְהוּא צָדֵי תַעֲלִין הֲלִיכוּ בֵיהּ:
Because of Mount Zion which is desolate; foxes prowled on it.
אַתְּ הוּא יְיָ לַעֲלַם בֵּית מוֹתְבָךְ בְּשְׁמֵי מְרוֹמָא כּוּרְסֵי יְקָרָךְ לְדָרֵי דָרַיָּא:
You are the Lord. Forever your dwellingplace is in the heavenly heights. Yourglorious throne is from generation to generation.
לָמָּה לְעַלְמִין תַּשְׁלִינָנָא תִּשְׁבְּקִינָנָא לְאוֹרִיכוּת יוֹמִין:
Will you forget us forever and forsake us for a long time?
אָתֵיב יְיָ יָתָנָא לְוָתָךְ וְנִיתּוּב בִּתְיוּבְתָּא שְׁלֵימְתָּא תְּחַדֵּת יוֹמָנָא לְטָב כִּזְמַן יוֹמַיָּא טָבַיָּא דַהֲווֹ מִלְקַדְמִין:
Restore us, O Lord, to yourself and we will return in complete repentance. May you renew our daysfor good asthe festival days of old
אֲרוּם אֱלָהֵן מִיקָץ תֵּיקוּץ בָּנָא רְגִיזְתָּא עֲלָנָא עַד לַחֲדָא:
For you have utterly loathed us; you have been extremely angry with us. Restore us, O Lord, to yourself and we will return in complete repentance. May you renew our daysfor good asthe festival days of old
