And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt-offering and sacrifices for G‑d; and Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before G‑d. (18:12) Nowhere in the Torah do we find it saying that Moses ate. In fact, we find only the opposite: “And he was there with G‑d forty days and nights; he did not eat bread, nor drink water” (Exodus 34:28). We also find: “And Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.”¹ This is because Moses’ eating was so spiritual that is impossible to write in the Torah that it was in this world.
