וַיְצַ֤ו מֹשֶׁה֙ וְזִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת־הָעָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר שָׁמֹר֙ אֶת־כׇּל־הַמִּצְוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֧ר אָנֹכִ֛י מְצַוֶּ֥ה אֶתְכֶ֖ם הַיּֽוֹם׃
Moshe and the elders of Yisroel commanded the people the following, ‘‘Keep all of the commandment that I am commanding you today.
And Moshe with the elders of Yisra᾽el commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you this day.
And Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying: Keep [always] the entire mitzvah that I command you this day.
וְהָיָ֗ה בַּיּוֹם֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תַּעַבְר֣וּ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ אֶל־הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֣ן לָ֑ךְ וַהֲקֵמֹתָ֤ לְךָ֙ אֲבָנִ֣ים גְּדֹל֔וֹת וְשַׂדְתָּ֥ אֹתָ֖ם בַּשִּֽׂיד׃
When the day comes that you cross the Yardein to the land that Adonoy, your God, is giving you, erect large stones and coat them with whitewash.
And it shall be on the day when you shall pass over the Yarden to the land which the Lord thy God gives thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and cover them with plaster:
And it shall be, on the day that you cross the Jordan to the land that the L-rd your G-d gives you, that you shall set up [in the Jordan] great stones, and you shall paint them with lime.
וְכָתַבְתָּ֣ עֲלֵיהֶ֗ן אֶֽת־כׇּל־דִּבְרֵ֛י הַתּוֹרָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את בְּעׇבְרֶ֑ךָ לְמַ֡עַן אֲשֶׁר֩ תָּבֹ֨א אֶל־הָאָ֜רֶץ אֲֽשֶׁר־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֣יךָ**׀** נֹתֵ֣ן לְךָ֗ אֶ֣רֶץ זָבַ֤ת חָלָב֙ וּדְבַ֔שׁ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֶּ֛ר יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי־אֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ לָֽךְ׃
You are to write on them all statements of this Torah upon your crossing; in order that you come to the land that Adonoy, your God, is giving you, a land flowing milk and honey, as promised by Adonoy, God of your forefathers, to you.
and thou shalt write upon them all the words of this Tora, when thou art passed over, that thou mayst go in to the land which the Lord thy God gives thee, a land flowing with milk and honey; as the Lord God of thy fathers has promised thee.
And you shall write upon them all the words of this Torah when you pass over, so that you come to the land that the L-rd your G-d gives to you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the L-rd, the G-d of your fathers, spoke to you.
וְהָיָה֮ בְּעׇבְרְכֶ֣ם אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן֒ תָּקִ֜ימוּ אֶת־הָאֲבָנִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֜י מְצַוֶּ֥ה אֶתְכֶ֛ם הַיּ֖וֹם בְּהַ֣ר עֵיבָ֑ל וְשַׂדְתָּ֥ אוֹתָ֖ם בַּשִּֽׂיד׃
As soon as you have crossed the Yardein, set up these stones that I am commanding you today, on Mount Eival, and coat them with whitewash.
And it shall be when you have gone over the Yarden, that you shall set up these stones, which I command you this day in mount ῾Eval, and thou shalt cover them with plaster.
And it shall be, when you cross the Jordan, that you shall set up these stones which I command you this day in Mount Eival, and you shall paint them with lime.
וּבָנִ֤יתָ שָּׁם֙ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ מִזְבַּ֣ח אֲבָנִ֔ים לֹא־תָנִ֥יף עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם בַּרְזֶֽל׃
Build there an altar to Adonoy, your God; an altar of stones; do not lift iron upon them.
And there shalt thou build an altar to the Lord thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt not lift up any iron tool upon them.
And you shall build there an altar to the L-rd your G-d, an altar of stones. You shall not lift iron over them.
אֲבָנִ֤ים שְׁלֵמוֹת֙ תִּבְנֶ֔ה אֶת־מִזְבַּ֖ח יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ וְהַעֲלִ֤יתָ עָלָיו֙ עוֹלֹ֔ת לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃
[Of] whole stones are you to build the altar of Adonoy, your God; and you are to bring upon it burnt-offerings to Adonoy, your God.
Thou shalt build the altar of the Lord thy God of whole stones: and thou shalt offer burnt offerings upon it to the Lord thy God:
Of whole stones shall you build the altar of the L-rd your G-d, and you shall offer upon it burnt-offerings to the L-rd your G-d.
וְזָבַחְתָּ֥ שְׁלָמִ֖ים וְאָכַ֣לְתָּ שָּׁ֑ם וְשָׂ֣מַחְתָּ֔ לִפְנֵ֖י יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃
You are to slaughter peace -offerings and eat [them] there; and you are to rejoice in the presence of Adonoy, your God.
and thou shalt offer peace offerings, and shalt eat there, and rejoice before the Lord thy God.
And you shall sacrifice peace-offerings and you shall eat there, and you shall rejoice before the L-rd your G-d.
וְכָתַבְתָּ֣ עַל־הָאֲבָנִ֗ים אֶֽת־כׇּל־דִּבְרֵ֛י הַתּוֹרָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את בַּאֵ֥ר הֵיטֵֽב׃{ס}
You are to write on the stones all the statements of this Torah, explained properly.
And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this Tora very plainly.
And you shall write on the stones all the words of this Torah, well explained [in seventy languages].
וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר מֹשֶׁה֙ וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים הַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֶ֥ל כׇּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר הַסְכֵּ֤ת׀וּשְׁמַע֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַיּ֤וֹם הַזֶּה֙ נִהְיֵ֣יתָֽ לְעָ֔ם לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃
Moshe and the kohanim-Levi’im addressed all of Yisroel, to say, ‘‘Take heed and accept, Yisroel! [On] this day you have become a people to Adonoy, your God.
And Moshe and the priests the Levites spoke to all Yisra᾽el saying, Take heed, and hearken, O Yisra᾽el; this day thou art become the people of the Lord thy God.
And Moses and the Cohanim, the Levites, spoke to all of Israel, saying: Listen and hear, O Israel: This day you have become a people to the L-rd your G-d [(Let it be in your eyes as if you have entered into the covenant with Him this day.)]
וְשָׁ֣מַעְתָּ֔ בְּק֖וֹל יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ וְעָשִׂ֤יתָ אֶת־מִצְוֺתָו֙ וְאֶת־חֻקָּ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּֽוֹם׃{ס}
You are to obey Adonoy, your God, and perform His commandments and His statutes that I am commanding you today.’’
Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of the Lord thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.
And you shall heed the voice of the L-rd your G-d, and you shall do His mitzvoth and His statutes which I command you this day.
וַיְצַ֤ו מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא לֵאמֹֽר׃
Moshe commanded the people on that day, to say,
And Moshe charged the people the same day, saying,
And Moses commanded the people on that day, saying:
אֵ֠לֶּה יַֽעַמְד֞וּ לְבָרֵ֤ךְ אֶת־הָעָם֙ עַל־הַ֣ר גְּרִזִ֔ים בְּעׇבְרְכֶ֖ם אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן שִׁמְעוֹן֙ וְלֵוִ֣י וִֽיהוּדָ֔ה וְיִשָּׂשכָ֖ר וְיוֹסֵ֥ף וּבִנְיָמִֽן׃
‘‘The following will stand to bless the people on Mount Gerizim, upon your crossing the Yardein: Shimon and Levi and Yehudah, and Yisachar and Yoseif and Binyomin.
These shall stand upon mount Gerizzim to bless the people, when you are come over the Yarden; Shim῾on, and Levi, and Yehuda, and Yissakhar, and Yosef, and Binyamin:
These shall stand for the blessing of the people on Mount Gerizim when you cross over the Jordan: Shimon, Levi, Yehudah, Yissachar, Yosef, and Binyamin [Six tribes went up to the top of Mount Gerizim and six to the top of Mount Eival, the Cohanim and the Levites standing with the ark, below, in the middle. The Levites turned their faces towards Mount Gerizim and opened with blessing, viz.: "Blessed is the man who does not make a graven image or a molten image," and all (on both mountains) answered Amen. Then they turned to Mount Eival and recited the corresponding curse, viz. (15): "Cursed is the man who makes a graven or a molten image, etc.", and so with all, until (26): "Cursed is he who does not fulfill, etc." (see 11:29)]
וְאֵ֛לֶּה יַֽעַמְד֥וּ עַל־הַקְּלָלָ֖ה בְּהַ֣ר עֵיבָ֑ל רְאוּבֵן֙ גָּ֣ד וְאָשֵׁ֔ר וּזְבוּלֻ֖ן דָּ֥ן וְנַפְתָּלִֽי׃
And the following will stand for the curse at Mount Eival: Reuvein, Gad and Asher, and Zevulun, Don and Naftoli.
and these shall stand on mount ῾Eval to curse; Re᾽uven, Gad, and Asher, and Zevulun, Dan, and Naftali.
And these shall stand for the curse on Mount Eival: Reuven, Gad, and Asher, and Zevulun, Dan, and Naftali.
וְעָנ֣וּ הַלְוִיִּ֗ם וְאָ֥מְר֛וּ אֶל־כׇּל־אִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל ק֥וֹל רָֽם׃{ס}
The Levi’im are to respond and say to every man of Yisroel aloud:
And the Levites shall speak, and say to all the men of Yisra᾽el with a loud voice,
And the Levites shall lift their voices, and they shall say to all the men of Israel in a loud voice:
אָר֣וּר הָאִ֡ישׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יַעֲשֶׂה֩ פֶ֨סֶל וּמַסֵּכָ֜ה תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת יְהֹוָ֗ה מַעֲשֵׂ֛ה יְדֵ֥י חָרָ֖שׁ וְשָׂ֣ם בַּסָּ֑תֶר וְעָנ֧וּ כׇל־הָעָ֛ם וְאָמְר֖וּ אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is the man who makes a statue or a molten image, Adonoy’s abomination, the handiwork of a craftsman, and places [it] in a secret [place];’ the entire people will respond and say, Amein.
Cursed be the man that makes any carved or molten idol, an abomination to the Lord, the work of the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.
Cursed is the man who makes a graven or a molten image, the abomination of the L-rd, the work of the hands of an artisan, and places it in secret. And all the people shall answer and say: Amen.
אָר֕וּר מַקְלֶ֥ה אָבִ֖יו וְאִמּ֑וֹ וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever reviles his father or his mother,’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that dishonours his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who demeans his father and his mother. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָר֕וּר מַסִּ֖יג גְּב֣וּל רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever casts aside the boundary of his fellow;’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that removes his neighbour’s landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who moves back the boundary marker of his neighbor, [thus stealing his land]. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָר֕וּר מַשְׁגֶּ֥ה עִוֵּ֖ר בַּדָּ֑רֶךְ וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever misleads the blind about the way;’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that makes the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who misleads the blind man on the way [i.e., one who gives the unknowing bad advice]. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָר֗וּר מַטֶּ֛ה מִשְׁפַּ֥ט גֵּר־יָת֖וֹם וְאַלְמָנָ֑ה וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃¹

‘Cursed is whoever distorts justice for a convert, orphan, or widow;’ and entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that perverts the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

אָר֗וּר שֹׁכֵב֙ עִם־אֵ֣שֶׁת אָבִ֔יו כִּ֥י גִלָּ֖ה כְּנַ֣ף אָבִ֑יו וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever has intercourse with his father’s wife, because he exposed the corner of his father[’s garment];’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that lies with his father’s wife; because he uncovers his father’s skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, for he has uncovered his father's lap. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָר֕וּר שֹׁכֵ֖ב עִם־כׇּל־בְּהֵמָ֑ה וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever has intercourse with any animal;’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that lies with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who lies with any beast. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָר֗וּר שֹׁכֵב֙ עִם־אֲחֹת֔וֹ בַּת־אָבִ֖יו א֣וֹ בַת־אִמּ֑וֹ וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever has intercourse with his sister, daughter of his father or daughter of his mother;’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that lies with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָר֕וּר שֹׁכֵ֖ב עִם־חֹֽתַנְתּ֑וֹ וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever has intercourse with his father’s-in-law wife;’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that lies with his mother in law. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָר֕וּר מַכֵּ֥ה רֵעֵ֖הוּ בַּסָּ֑תֶר וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever strikes his fellow in secret;’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that smites his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who smites his neighbor [i.e., who slanders him] in secret. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָרוּר֙ לֹקֵ֣חַ שֹׁ֔חַד לְהַכּ֥וֹת נֶ֖פֶשׁ דָּ֣ם נָקִ֑י וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{ס}
‘Cursed is whoever accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person;’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that takes a bribe to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who takes graft to smite a soul of innocent blood. And all the people shall say: Amen.
אָר֗וּר אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹא־יָקִ֛ים אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֥י הַתּוֹרָֽה־הַזֹּ֖את לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת אוֹתָ֑ם וְאָמַ֥ר כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם אָמֵֽן׃{פ}
‘Cursed is whoever does not uphold the statements of this Torah to perform them;’ and the entire people will say, Amein.
Cursed be he that does not maintain all the words of this Tora to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Cursed is he who does not fulfill the words of this Torah to do them. And all the people shall say: Amen. [The entire Torah is herein included, and they accepted it under imprecation and oath.]
